There was a definite lack of bollards when we photographed the route - looks like just 1 at the south end. We can’t see any other solution but to add bollards if drivers are going to behave like this. Very pleased that you are ok.

Why don’t they like stations on curves? This just seems like such a missed opportunity to give Penshaw folk a rail link to Sunderland & Washington / Gateshead / Newcastle & we have to say we love the idea of going to Penshaw Monument by Metro!

6/ Finally, the Council comms team need to treat spurious objections to cycle lanes with the same robustness they used re Pride. This comment on the FB post with the video of the Civic is misogynistic (women do cycle & the main bar is lack of cycle routes); offensive & wrong (re the hills & rain).

Especially as there’s a real need for everyone in Newcastle to understand the challenges that climate change will pose to our city eg these are pics from the Council’s Climate change forum re flooding risks as climate change means we might get more “toon monsoons” - this needs to be better known.

6. Why is Manors Railway Station important to Gosforth? It’s surprisingly easier to cycle to than Central Station - there’s almost a safe cycle route there! It also could offer drivers passing through Gosforth a quicker way to the city. Less congestion on our streets! So…just stop the trains!

5. Access from the south is via the Argyle St bridge which shows how a politician can make progress. Cllr Ainsley changed this to a Safe Pedestrian And Cycling Environment with a few bollards & it’s now much easier to walk / cycle to the Sallyport Tower & Quayside. @worldbollardassoc.bsky.social

4. Pedestrian access isn’t great either - Manors Metro station is next door but there’s no footpath between the 2. Walk across the Central Motorway & you have to suffer 90 degree corners & T Dan’s “iconic” bridges!! The entrance to the potentially useful “Get Carter” steps is well-hidden.

3. The station itself lacks amenities since its buildings were destroyed. It does have cycle racks … but you have to boot your bike over the bridge to reach them. The bridge also means no disabled access to the middle platform.

2. Sorting the services is straightforward - both the Northumberland Line & local services on the East Coast Mainline (to Morpeth & beyond) run through Manors but not all trains stop there. This one pictured didn’t stop! So … just stop the trains!

It’s good to see @chroniclelive.co.uk reporting this as the Climate Change Forum talk was v interesting. When we saw this map of the burns we realised just why the Exi Park subway floods. Politicians talk a lot for/against climate change stuff so people need to understand what is happening locally.

This is excellent news but we also need more frequent rail services to Newcastle from south of the Tyne & the reopening of lost stations. The Gateshead flyover situation really shows why this is important - it would have been easier to deal with if Gateshead still had its access to the railway.

10) Finally when reviewing the current plans, it should be remembered that Newcastle Council have a target of 50% of local journeys being walked/cycled by 2030. To do this they need safe streets for walking & a dense network of cycle routes engineered to LTN1/20 standards.

2) It’s also really striking that @luketryl.bsky.social complains about the absence of voices in this tweet-but is doing the same thing in this poll. Did he ask those who can’t afford a car if they can afford this? Or just rich, privileged drivers who are predjuced against a safer form of polluting.

This is why we are so worried about the Council’s ability to meet its own transport targets - 2030 is only 5 years away yet we keep seeing projects changed / cancelled. Bolt on kerbs are a good thing - but there has to be a quicker way to get them installed on existing routes.
