Sh2-173 is a faint emission nebula in the constellation Cassiopeia. It’s called the Phantom of the Opera Nebula because of the way the black dust lanes cut across the brighter hydrogen making it resemble a theatrical mask. #astrophotography 🔭

Last night was the final night of another amazing NYAA Starfest. Thank you to the organizing committee and all the volunteers and a special thank you to Sky Watcher for sponsoring this event with some amazing prizes. Until next year, clear skies! 🔭 #astrophotography #nyaastarfest #skywatcherusa

Sh2-129 and Ou 4, the Bat and Squid Nebula If ever there was a target screaming at me to go mono it’s this one. I wish I could have given it more time but the weather and smoke had other ideas. This is about 20 hours worth so far. 🔭 #astrophotography

Check it out. LDN 43 the Cosmic Bat Nebula, is a dark molecular cloud in Ophiuchus, 1,400 light-years away and 12 light-years wide. Its dense dust blocks background starlight while sheltering active star formation within. I could spend many more nights on this target alone. 🔭 #astrophotography

My wife took these pictures of Venus, Jupiter and the moon as we were driving down the highway. The lightening in the clouds below was so dramatic, she was attempting to capture it at the same time. The last pic is the best she could get. Not bad for 100km/hr photography though. 🔭 #astrophotography

Bridging the vastness of the cosmos between a space brain and the big bad Wolf. Shown here is the complex region of the Cygnus constellation between the Crescent Nebula (NGC 6888) on the left and WR 134, a well known Wolf-Rayet star on the right. Here’s my take on galaxies NGC 3718 (larger one) and NGC 3729 in the constellation Ursa Major. Located roughly 52 million light years away it’s thought to get its unusual shape from gravitational interaction with nearby galaxy NGC 3729. 🔭 #astrophotography

Comet C/2025 R3 PANSTARRS This is only 10 minutes worth of data but I’m still happy I got out of bed for it. It’s always worth it in hindsight, just doesn’t feel like it when the alarm goes off. It was such a low target I had to shoot through ground fog. 🔭 #astrophotography

Finally some new material to share. Here’s a sample of the night sky near Virgo. In the upper right is a pair of galaxies in the process of merging known as the Siamese Twins or Butterfly Galaxies, officially NGC 4567 and 4568. In the lower left is M58, a barred spiral galaxy. 🔭 #astrophotography

Here’s a total revamp of my Dark Scorpion nebula, yes it’s still cloudy. I was testing the new MAS in PixInsight to see how well it works for dark nebulae and it seems to work really well for bringing out that extra dust and nebulosity and maintaining the colours. 🔭 #astrophotography

Sh2-136 the Ghost Nebula I forgot I had this data. Clouds and boredom made me go back and review some of my old stuff and I came across this. It’s only a few hours of what was supposed to be a multi-night project. Obviously I got sidetracked by something new and shiny. #astrophotography 🔭

Globular star clusters are one of the most intriguing objects in the night sky. Tens of thousands to millions of stars bound tightly by gravity yet completely stable. They’re home to some of the most ancient stars in the galaxy. The Milky Way has over 150 globular clusters.
