Speaking of Capital Bikeshare being stronger than ever, September saw 676k rides (+8% Sept '25 / +2% Sept '24), the 5th highest month all-time!

TAKE THE BUS! 🚌 It’s Week Without Driving. Join me and my friends from @ggwash.org in getting out of our cars and choosing public transit. Don’t forget to take the People’s Survey and tell us how we can make our public transit system even better!

In light of the recent discourse on how DC can better regulate the use of dockless scooter and ebikes (Lime/Veo/Hopp) it's worth looking at how CaBi's Aug 2025 price increase strengthened the network by better incentivizing riders to end trips at stations much much more below:

I remember going to an outreach event for the Georgia Ave bus lane in 2023 and asking DDOT staff if there was any chance the construction timeline could get moved up because 2025 felt so far away

The DDOT public space committee has approved Streatery Design Permits for Marx Cafe and Beau Thai! As of now, no other Mt Pleasant establishments have outstanding permit applications

This project will be a good litmus test for JLG’s attitude towards bike lanes: it’s short (<0.5 mi), it fills a key gap in the network, and it has strong ANC + WABA support BUT it would require removing ~64 parking spaces (by my count) in one of the densest parts of the city

By popular demand, you can now go to "rank my rides" and see where all of your CaBi rides rank all-time (I'm very slow, don't judge): cabi-kom.netlify.app/rank fyi it'll take a couple minutes since you need to log into your CaBi account on desktop and scrape the ride history

Two months in, WMATA's surge of fare enforcement on Metrobus is having a clear effect: fare evasion dropped from 73% to 63% from May to June Overall ridership has fallen slightly over the past two years, but paid rides hit a new post-pandemic peak in June

new from @sp-ainsworth.bsky.social & me, a back of the ✉️ estimate in @ggwash.org: 🚌&🚲lane projects save 1-2 human lives per year, & create societal savings of $88-$111M/year, just in avoided crashes. We don't capture every project or ancillary health benefits, so this could be an underestimate.
Chart showing DDOT’s bike lanes have had gigantic safety benefits, reducing total crashes by 40% and injurious crashes by 60% on the corridors where they are installed. These 24 bike lanes have saved an estimated 1-2 human lives per year.

funny enough, my first ever project as a transportation planner was an active transportation study for this parking garage! absolutely cursed area from a land use perspective, made a bunch of recs to eliminate slip lanes and add sidewalks, no idea if they got implemented

every BRT project be like: $1 billion price tag, 20 year timeline, 15 min peak headways, mixed traffic segments, oh also we're adding car lanes and let's throw in bike lanes and re-do all the utilities while blaming transit for the disruption, at least the stations were designed by a local artist 🙂

DDOT has chosen a concept for the Columbia Heights Crosstown bus priority project: app.box.com/s/c045btuyxr... They've selected curbside bus lanes throughout the corridor, except for offset lanes on Irving (14th to 11th St only). My thoughts below:

Capital Bikeshare saw 656k trips in June, down just 5% YoY, the best we've seen since the Aug 25' price increase More broadly, total DC micromobility (MM) ridership is booming! Ride Report's private MM (Lime, Veo, etc.) data shows 1.75m trips in June, a 37% YoY increase 1/

You might be able to blame cars, or more specifically underground parking garages, for creating year-round mosquito sanctuaries.

Huge congrats to @aparnafordc.bsky.social Even though Miguel didn’t win I’m still super excited for where we’re heading - shoutout W1 for having some of the best candidates citywide. I loved how in every questionnaire Aparna/Miguel/Rashida were deeper in the policy weeds than anyone else

A good reminder that JLG is going to have the chance to implement some transformational bus priority projects (Georgia Ave, U St, 14th St) in her first year! The promise of a competent DDOT director and no mayoral interference was the biggest reason I was all-in on JLG from day 1

In the light of her OCF violation, here's a couple more points on Jackie's fundraising that stand out: Just over 50% of her donations were made in cash but they've been making up a progressively larger share over time The four other Ward 1 candidates collectively have less than 10 cash donations

I had to survey every bus stop in Arlington county a couple years ago and it broke my heart every time I encountered an otherwise perfect bus stop with a landing pad cross slope of 2.3%, let’s say, and knew that I was lighting $10k+ of taxpayer money on fire by marking it ADA noncompliant

this is a tough one! printed info is valuable, but only if it's up-to-date and with thousands of stops, that's a lot of labor any time there's a service change. I personally think going all-in on QR codes with printed info only at key transfer points and high-ridership stops is a good compromise

JLG had over 1k more donations from DC residents over the last month than McDuffie did, 1,919 to 836! Only raised $10k more than McDuffie though which speaks to the type of donor each candidate is attracting

Capital Bikeshare saw 605k rides in April, down from 664k a year ago. That's a great sign! We had been seeing ~20% YoY drops in ridership, but April was only down 9%. Coupled with all-time highs for dockless micromobility, more people are biking than ever and CaBi is on better financial footing!

CaBi ridership has been down since the August price increase but DC is biking (and scooting) more than ever! Combining CaBi data with Ride Report's dockless micromobility data shows that we're still recording monthly all-time highs, but the share of those rides on CaBi is decreasing
