The Rothesay County Championship fixture will take place from Friday 15 May to Monday 18 May. England legend James Anderson is expected to be part of the Lancashire squad, giving supporters the chance to see one of the country’s most decorated bowlers in action in Southport.

The cost of recruiting players in the National League has changed dramatically in recent years. In the latest FA figures, published yesterday, some clubs in the National League have spent close to £200,000 on agents in a single season. These disclosures offer one of the clearest indicators of how the game below the EFL has evolved. The FA releases an annual report detailing sums paid to agents in a given timeframe, with the latest release covering 4th February 2025 to 2nd February 2026.

A group of Southport supporters reflect on what it meant to be part of one of the biggest weekends in living memory, and where they feel the club currently stands. This is the first in what we hope will become a regular feature. If you would like to contribute in future please get in touch. Stephen Brown: It was a cup run against all odds.

What they don’t tell you about getting old is the numbers. When I casually mention to folk who may, or may not, be interested, that I saw my first Southport FC game sixty three years ago, I am seei…

There's a big game tomorrow, I don't know if anyone's mentioned it? I’m not entirely sure what I’m feeling this morning. I started going to Southport with my dad in 1992, and in those early years it was me, him and our family friend Henry, just going to the match and sitting together like everyone else. By 1996, I had started to take a greater interest in what was going on around the game as well as on the pitch, and as part of a school project I created what was then the club’s first website.

It has been a couple of months since the last general update on Southport Central and it feels like a good moment to pause and take stock of what has been happening on the site. Thankfully what's happening on the pitch is getting most of the headlines at the moment! Since the January update there has been a steady flow of new articles covering both the club’s history and current developments around Haig Avenue.

With Southport preparing to host Southend United in the FA Trophy semi-final, one topic has come up repeatedly among supporters since the draw was announced...the crowd. It has dominated more lines of supporter comment than the actual game itself. How many people will actually be there? How does it compare with the biggest games at Haig Avenue? What is the capacity?

Southport are through to the FA Trophy semi finals for the first time in 28 years after a dramatic penalty shoot out victory over National League side Yeovil Town at Haig Avenue. Whilst their Full …

In May 1951, Southport briefly hosted some of the most famous footballers in the country. England were preparing for their Festival of Britain international against Portugal at Goodison Park, and Walter Winterbottom brought his squad to Haig Avenue for several days of training. It was the first time the national team had used Southport as a base, and for local supporters it created a week of rare proximity to the leading figures of post-war English football.

One of the more interesting moments at the recent Southport FC fans forum came towards the end of a wide-ranging discussion about infrastructure, long-term planning and the future direction of the club.A supporter asked a straightforward question: could Southport FC ever buy its ground back from Sefton Council, and if so, would that be a good idea? The responses from the owners were thoughtful and measured.

Southport FC Women were beaten 2–0 by Maghull Ladies in a league fixture that was officially a home game but had to be played at St John Bosco Art College following waterlogging at Haig Avenue earl…

The most recent fans forum offered supporters the chance to hear directly from the ownership and senior figures at Southport FC. Rather than being structured around a defined agenda or set of announcements, the evening unfolded as a wide-ranging discussion shaped largely by questions from the floor. That approach meant the forum moved quickly between subjects, often returning to immediate pressures rather than building towards a clearly articulated plan.

This article follows on from Helping the Club Together: A History of Southport’s Share Structure and the Path Ahead, published in December 2025. That earlier piece set out how Southport’s ownership structure expanded over time and reshaped the balance of control within the club. The discussion at the recent fans forum (29/01/2026) brings that history into sharper focus. As the club considers how future investment might be introduced, questions around consolidation, governance and control have become immediate rather than theoretical.

Southport has occasionally been home to dual-sport athletes, but few have made their mark in both codes quite like Keith Pring. A Welsh international footballer who later set a points-scoring record in the colours of Southport RUFC, his career was as versatile as it was impressive. Born in Newport, Monmouthshire, in March 1943, Pring attended Newport Grammar School. As a youngster he represented Cardiff Boys at rugby, no small feat in a city where the oval ball sets the standard.

They say you should never meet your heroes, with the suggestion that they will inevitably disappoint you. Nevertheless, there I was, a recently retired Deputy Head of a secondary school, preparing …

We have learned through Eric’s family that Eric “Big Red” Redrobe sadly passed away on New Year’s Eve. Eric, heritage number 986, was one of the most recognisable and much loved figures in Southport FC history. Signed from Bolton Wanderers on 18 August 1966, he made his debut two days later against Port Vale and went on to become a fixture in the Southport side for more than six seasons.

Cricket and Football Field - 31 August 1889 Three years since the gates at a football match in Southport occasionally fell below 2s. Last season the Southport Central Football Club was formed, and imported professionals, a great impetus being given to the game. Next week, as the sports ground must ere long become the builder’s prey, the Central will open a fine new enclosure in Scarisbrick New-rd., and play an exhibition match with Preston North End.

This inter-association match was played on Monday in splendid weather at Hawthorne-road, there being fully 3,000 spectators present when the full team of Dumbarton turned out, nearly 30 minutes behind the advertised time. Some slight alterations were made in both teams, Shore (of Earlestown) taking Hastings’ place; while Kier and Latta were absent from the Scotch team. Stewart having won the toss, Turner started the ball, with the sun in his eyes, and immediately a corner was gained by the visitors, when the District worked well together, Galbraith’s shot being thrown clear by McLeod.

Cricket & Football Field, 23rd February 1889 This Inter-Association match takes place at Bootle on Monday night. Kick-off at 4.45. The Dumbartonshire team has an excellent record for the past two seasons, as the following will show: v. Edinburgh won 4 to 1; v. Renfrewshire won 2 to 1; v. Lancashire won 4 to 1; v. In Saturday’s Guardian appeared a report of the Southport Wanderers Football Club annual meeting. The two chief points were the promise of a good enclosed ground in Scarisbrick New-road, and the proposed amalgamation, combination, friendly jointure, or working union with the Southport Football Club, the men of the most varied jerseys. Instead of one member of the Southport Committee being present as a deputation, it is a pity all were not there.

With the final competitive fixture of the year now completed, this article reviews Southport’s first-team record across the 2025 calendar year. The figures below relate to competitive first-team matches played between 1 January and 31 December. As this is a calendar-year review rather than a season summary, it therefore draws together matches from two different campaigns. Matches and results…

The Southport Football Club Hall of Fame exists to recognise the people who have made a lasting contribution to the club across its long history. It was created by the Southport Former Players Association as a way of formally recording service that has helped to shape the identity of the club on and off the pitch. The Hall of Fame is not limited to players alone.
