It’s not, no. Just general overall homeowners insurance. It’s nearly impossible to match insurance valuations to collector’s prices. I’ve watched more than enough friends fail to get reasonable insurance valuations on vintage guitars...

Still... that looks stunning! Fortunately, our patch of Manhattan features hundreds of acres of natural forest, which I’m drawn to far more than I am to the rest of the city. I’ve grown very ready for quiet and solitude.

I’ve reached the age where photos like this one leave me angry about living here in NYC. Really angry. Angry and bitter.

I’m taking boroughs, not land masses. That would be like claiming Alaska is Canadian.

Only it happened in Manhattan, not The Bronx.

It happened in Manhattan, not in The Bronx. Marble Hill is the northernmost neighborhood in Manhattan.

Exactly. A lot of people here need to have a quiet word with whoever sold them their maps.

For fuck’s sake. Marble Hill is NOT in The Bronx. It’s a neighborhood in Manhattan.

It didn’t happen in The Bronx. Marble Hill is part of Manhattan.

I know. I was with him earlier that day, and people that we both knew were with him that evening. Lies were told, people covered-up, and the NYPD generally lacks interest in cases involving junkies.

Yes, that album was his last-but-one before he died. I remember how proud he was to have got (former Rolling Stone) Mick Taylor to play guitar on that recording.

I know too fucking well how this ends up. So many times I defended our stateside version of the first Clash album, on the strength of White Man and Complete Control... not doing it again with Killing Joke or anybody else 🤣🤣🤣

That would explain that (or vice versa).

Same... the 40th is a really good pressing, sounds great. My copy, on black vinyl, left off Change, and I’m not sure why. Does your copy include it?

Is that the edition with the black on silver cover, as opposed to the original black on white cover?

I saw them far more times than I can guess. In my experience, though, the craziness of the gigs was never a patch on the craziness backstage!

There’s no sane argument against that, pal!

Grab what you can find now, because their catalogue is in a regrettably hellish limbo at the moment, with no end in sight.

Mark (out of Sour Jazz) @sourjazz.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I’m prejudiced, but it’s stonishing that a debut this strong didn’t precede a sophomore slump,

Mark (out of Sour Jazz) @sourjazz.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I’m not stupid enough to discuss the first album. Not even close 🤣

Mark (out of Sour Jazz) @sourjazz.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I totally get that. I think my appreciation of it grew after I gained experience in recording studios myself. Sometimes the creative process can be more exciting than the results, and maybe that’s a big part of Sandinista’s appeal for me?

There’s SO much music out there, and our time to discover and enjoy it is running out. I gave up trying years ago – either it moves me quickly, or it don’t!
120
Mark (out of Sour Jazz) @sourjazz.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
I’m the opposite, but I understand your point of view. It took a lot of time, but I eventually stood in awe of Sandinista’s schizophrenic and sprawling sense of adventure. Okay... maybe lose Mickey Gallagher’s kids singing Guns of Brixton 🤣

They evolved quickly, as you said, and they never gave a fuck about anybody’s expectations of them. In my book, that’s a winning combination! All these decades later, Combat Rock is the one I reach for the least, maybe because it made too much sense after Sandinista.

Really tempted to call it a transitional album, but that would be wrong... every album of theirs was transitional. No running on the spot for them, was there?

Enjoy the gig! My abiding memory of Dando is of him shooting up my friend here in NYC, back in 2006, with a dose that killed him. Reprehensible hoofwanking bunglecunt.

Just had a closer look at this. I have friends in one of those bands, and they took a remarkably dim view of the other band, resulting from that specific tour!

He did much the same every time I saw him the 1980s… and so did I. And just to be clear, the vast majority of the room(s) had nearly emptied before I headed for the door myself. He tested, and conquered, everybody’s patience.

That would likely have been me. I remember leaving after the three-hour mark, which is surplus to needs no matter who’s on the stage.

I was in bands with Pete in the early 80s, before he joined Warrior Soul, and we remained close friends until his recent passing. I’ll always miss him, so it’s nice to see your post, and know that somebody feels a connection to his work. He was one of the very best.
