TSP radio broadgramme for today is now available for streaming. It has some fairly volcanic moments in among the stones & fog. www.mixcloud.com/Resonance/the-soun…

Record Collector is not exactly my go-to source of good music journalism, but that question hits a new low in inanity. Why would they feel compelled to ask a question about AI? And why put it to a musician of Thompson's stature?

Title lettering giving a strong Herbie / Forbidden Worlds vibe there...is this from an ACG book?

If Netflix decided to "remimagine" Soylent Green as a TV series, this would be the cliff-hanger for the final episode of Season 1.

May I share this splendid BBC recording of a 10cc concert from 1974. It's easy to forget all four of them talented singers, musicians, and songwriters. Here is the visible proof. And they make it seem so easy. youtu.be/GvAjmvA4O70?si=eClZWvOEgTc…

While we're still piling on that awful cover, what's with those lamentable sight gags? Creme surrounded by flies? Idiotic badges on Godley's jacket? Bird's nest in the hair is about the naffest thing that could be conceived!

Strongly agree! Let's remind ourselves of some of their original covers, fcull of wit and invention, much like the music. Credits L-R, Lol Creme & David Anstey; Hipgnosis & Maurice Tate; Humphrey Ocean; Hipgnosis & George Hardie.

The Astorical Gap - new comic by me available now from the link. It opens sideways, like most of us do nowadays. Nothing to do with the Astorial Hotel. Not a normal comic. comics.edpinsent.com/2026/10/04/the…

I totally misread his name as AI Mega. I thought it was a way of boasting about how much he uses AI! But apparently he really is someone called Alexander Mega, a Puerto Rican fellow from Brooklyn.

First panel is a good example of suggesting depth in the panel by use of the character's eyelines. Dan Spiegle was excellent at doing this sort of thing. But not to detract from your lager point, Colin, the page composition and layout are very well done here.

If you're collecting bad Stravinsky cover art, this 1997 CD could be a contender. Both the cover, and the way the music itself is conducted, are trying far too hard to say "hey, avant-garde music can be fun!"

So what I'm seeing here is Scott Walker 'Plastic Palace People' ("Over the rooftops sails Billy") spliced with manic dance floor energy from The Fall...fantasy single released in 1977 by Fontana, with this drawing as picture sleeve. Is that too much to ask?

I like this! It reminds me of the "memory palaces" devised by Renaissance scientists in Europe. In this country, Robert Fludd took an interest too. Put simply, it's a means of ordering information by using the architectural space of a building.

"Gabby Gob" - what a great name! The character's new to me. I suppose he must be the maritime counterpart to Sad Sack.

For me this film beats Forbidden Planet any day. Every special effect sequence looks like a painted sci-fi paperback cover, as it should. The first 20 minutes is one of my favourite moments in cinema. 3/3

All Exeter’s labour-intensive efforts up to that point – sending out instructions on how to build the interociter, snagging Rex Reason in a green plane, keeping the captive scientists in the dark - have amounted to nothing. 2/3

Recently I rewatched This Island Earth. This time it struck me how bleak the story really is. Planet Metaluna is already on its last legs by the time Exeter arrives to rescue it. All the aliens end up dead. 1/3

This book by two French intellectuals is worth a read. They suggest that each episode is a "hard reset", the ending of which immediately sends Number Six back to square one, and he has to begin again from scratch. An infinite inescapable doom-loop, a Sisyphean struggle.

Don Martin did a small number of covers for Prestige in 1956. Miles Davis and Horns was another one. Oddly lugubrious and solemn art, not really suited to the music somehow, and quite some way from his later comic work for Mad Magazine.

Gorgeous halftone lines!! It's tempting to think that's Duotone board (aka Craftint), but I suspect he used a watercolour wash on the artwork (probably in blue), which was used as an instruction to the printer.

This, to me, would make a perfect LP cover for "Song Cycle" by Van Dyke Parks. Alternatively, a painting by Thomas Hart Benton.

In Richard's defence, I would say he's railing against superficial commentators at the BBC, who lack sufficient discernment or nuance when it comes to different shades of 1970s UK music.

Agree with your list...also Jon Field in Jade Warrior, Mel Collins on the 2nd King Crimson LP...admittedly they weren't "leaders" but even so. And John Hackett on 'Voyage of the Acolyte'.

What I dislike is the complete lack of compassion, or empathy. In the Randian world it's everyone for themselves, with no room for mercy or failure, and helping others is seen as a sign of weakness. Ditko seems to have driven mad by this idea.

Ed Pinsent @soundprojector.bsky.social · 22/07/2026
This "enormous club" motif features more than once...Ditko's unsubtle metaphor for coercion is just one of many manifestations of his "either-or" stance, which is also the obsessive subtext of every Mr A story.

Tonight's listening...electroacoustic music from Finland on the Edition RZ label (1989). No physical copy in my hands, alas, but streamable on YouTube. Wildly impressive, especially Patrick Kosk and his "Transmissions In A". I do own a few titles on this label and their pressing quality is superbo.

That's one of my most-read comics ever - at any rate, I have the reprint in the Fantagraphics softcover. Ditko during his most intense Ayn Rand phase! It's bonkers!
