Amid the vast Syrian Desert, southwest of the city of Raqqa, rise the imposing ruins of Resafa Castle, one of Syria's most significant archaeological sites. A symbol of the country's rich cultural heritage, Resafa reflects the interaction of faiths and civilizations that shaped the heart of the desert over many centuries.

Originally founded by the Assyrians in the 9th century BCE and mentioned in the Bible (2 Kings 19:12), Resafa later developed and flourished during the Roman, Byzantine, and Umayyad periods, thanks to its strategic location along a major caravan route near the Euphrates River.

Resafa's golden age came to an end in the 13th century, when it was devastated during the Mongol invasions. The city was gradually abandoned, leaving behind the magnificent ruins that stand today as a silent testament to Syria's remarkable past.
