2026 is one of the best years for anime!! Some 10/10s include Journal with Witch and its exploration of grief, emotion, and navigation in life, Jaadugar and its animation style and research regarding the history of Central Asia, and Draw This Then Die and its story of the struggle to create manga! ❤️

While modern anime push for vibrant animation with a lack of style & identity, Jaadugar is a breath of fresh air because of its focus in direction, style, and identity when it comes to its animation. On top of that, art & calligraphy are huge in central Asia. To pay homage to that means the world! ❤️

Jaadugar showing that Odegei has Sitara on the palm of his hand by referencing the most iconic scene from Perfect Blue is insane!!!!! Game respects game 🔥

Realizing Odegei has been painting Mongolia as good and peaceful after the bloodshed under Genghis Khan's rule has been eye-opening to see. It was also gratifying to see Sitara and Toregene's hate towards that erasure of history. This commentary on warping and propaganda is great! I'll miss Jaadugar

After watching a behind the scenes of Jaadugar, there were two main subjects that shook me to my core. 1) The team traveled to Mongolia to learn as much as they could about the culture & setting and 2) The importance of drawings, pen on paper. The love, care, and attention is absolutely outstanding!

Watched Your Name today and I can confirm that 10 years later, it's still as great as when I first watched it! Thank you Makoto Shinkai for showing me how gripping, gorgeous, and emotional anime can be! To shed tears 10 years ago as my gateway anime as well as today, I wouldn't have it any other way

SouLegacy @soulegacy.bsky.social · 15/08/2026

Episode 8 of Jaadugar aired and while the drama keeps on unfolding, education-wise it's still fluorishing! The word elixir is derived from the Arabic word "Al-iksir" and Urum is a Mongolian dish of clotted cream served with bread which is similar to an Afghan dish my family and I eat called Kaymak 🇦🇫

SouLegacy @soulegacy.bsky.social · 08/08/2026

There's another new design for Sitara??? To see Jaadugar adore these cultures that aren't really represented in the medium of anime is super endearing ❤️ Also, episode 7 really gave me vibes similar to The Apothecary Diaries such as learning more about the setting and politics that's slowly unfolding

SouLegacy @soulegacy.bsky.social · 01/08/2026

The sky turning blood red while Sitara tells Toregene "let the two of us summon a storm" after you realize BOTH of them had their loved ones taken by the Mongols is flat out chill inducing and chef's kiss ❤️ Jaadugar is how you write narratively driven and in-depth women in anime & manga hands down 🔥

Episode 5 of Jaadugar came out and I'm absolutely on the edge of my seat to hear about Toregene's backstory and what the Mongols did to her. Also, not gonna lie, as someone that can understand Persian, I always get a huge grin on my face whenever the language gets mentioned in this show! 😊

SouLegacy @soulegacy.bsky.social · 18/07/2026

Sitara's character design is just ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️ In Jaadugar episode 4, to see an anime talk about the certain way Muslims kill cattle is such a nice touch! The anime also mentions Khwarazm which is a region that includes central Asia, Iran, and Afghanistan. This show never fails when it comes to education!

SouLegacy @soulegacy.bsky.social · 11/07/2026

Episode 3 of Jaadugar came out and I'm absolutely blown away at the amount of research the writers put into this series. To see the writers explore the different tribes that make up central Asia such as the Uyghurs as well as Mongolian customs and traditions, it was such a treat to see! Phenomenal ❤️

I'm in tears and awe. Sitara and her household are all from Khorasan which involves my home country of Afghanistan along with Iran and Turkmenistan. I never seen my culture shown so beautifully until now. Representation matters. Thank you Science Saru and Naoko Yamada!!!!!!! ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️

Fresh and new quality is the theme of 2026 anime! Whether it's the emotional depth of Journal with Witch, the carefully calculated Art of War like writing in Nippon Sangoku, the extensive craft of the magic system in Witch Hat Atelier, or the worldbuilding & style of Jaadugar: A Witch in Mongolia 🙌

With the way Chainsaw Man part 2 ended, I can't help but remember how the ending of FF7 Rebirth made me feel. Initially I was left feeling confused and whelmed but once I start engaging and discussing with the core fans, points line up and realization builds to where I'm left feeling impressed (1/2)

I never thought I'd ever LOVE a shounen. I thought I was simply not built for it until one day in 2020, I decided to pick up this manga. Everything changed after that and I wouldn't have done it any differently. Thank you Tatsuki Fujimoto & thank you Chainsaw Man ❤️ Art: @machipachi1901.bsky.social

We need more romance anime in the forefront like these two! Female leads who are energetic, truly show off their personality, and are their own character along with male leads who have their shortcomings but grow to have more confidence and positive expression with their partner by their side! 🗣🙌❤️

Yoko Taro working on Evangelion is such a great match but I wish Shinji would stay happy with 4.0. Even if this adaptation is a retelling, it'd pain me to see Shinji suffer again. With the many times he became distraught, confused, and depressed, to watch 4.0 was such a great release of catharsis.

I think I not only found my anime of the season but also of the year! How Journal with Witch so far taught me how your feelings matter, are valid, operate differently from person to person, are complex even in seemingly simple situations, etc. Such a masterclass of the human heart and psyche ❤️

Calling it now, the Game Awards is a BETTER representation of anime than the Crunchyroll Anime Awards for 2025 and before shounen fans scoff and say "WhAt'S uMa MuSuMe?", it took over the anime fandom with Cinderella Gray on top of it also taking over the gaming AND streaming space #anime #umamusume

For 2025, it's no surprise that my anime of the year is Orb: On the Movements of the Earth! I remember reading the synopsis of this show saying how could they make an anime about astronomy THAT captivating and OH MAN did it prove me wrong! The story, characters, and theme were all simply outstanding

Looking back at my previous picks for anime of the year makes me happy and reassured with my taste! I LOVE shows that have characters go through emotional hardship & turmoil and am always engrossed to see if they can overcome those obstacles. Internal conflict is just so damn entertaining to watch!

My Dress Up Darling S2 episode 6 is another 10/10! Teared up multiple times when the whole class embraced Gojo and his passions and as someone that relates a TON to Gojo's thoughts and mannerisms, I couldn't help but be genuinely happy for this reserved and selfless king! This is why I love Gojo!!!!
