Stage 2: regular and no sugar added apple butter. I only lost one jar due to thermal shock, which was very odd because I thought the jar was hot enough to go into the water as it had just come out of the hot water. But oh well.

So did you know that as an adult, anything can be a glass? I’ve been waiting for these jars to come back to Canadian Tire for 4 months. I checked online yesterday because I needed to pick up some jars for apple butter, and they had them in stock. They were $9. They are shaped like strawberries.

This is a screenshot of a Facebook post from Wintermoor Orchard that reads:

“I would rather not have to make this post, but I see no alternative. Yesterday four young mothers came to the U pick with several children each. What could’ve been a great experience turned out to be not so. While the mother stood back, talking, oblivious to the writing, the children climb trees shook branches, stomped apples on the ground, and one young boy was allowed to buy his parent to bring in a stick shaped like a sword into the Orchard. He proceeded to bash apples with it. The row had just been cleaned by our crew to present a nice clean picking experience. Another picker notified our staff and the mothers were told to control their children, which they then did. They should not have been coached to apply good parenting. Not only is this an expense to clean up, it’s wasting food which my generation was taught never to do. It’s a loss of income for our Orchard and many hours that we toil. It also sets the children up for failure later in life, if poor behaviour is condoned. Last year, a grown man took a steak from a young tree and used it as a baseball bat while another man pitched apples to him. We see these incidences occurring more often that we can’t be everywhere in our Orchard, when we do see these types of activities the purposes will be getting an earful in order to leave. We have had enough.”

When you don’t have eclipse glasses, but you want to take pictures, you make do. Polarizing filter on the end of my lens and setting my camera into live mode, so I wasn’t looking in any way through the viewfinder or up into the sun at all. Just my camera was.

I made the Hong Kong iced tea hack, and it is delicious. (it’s Sprite or 7-Up, and I used zero sugar Sprite, with teabags, steeped in the fridge overnight. Just put your teabags in the pop). I am still feeling sick, so it’s a comfort food supper of a croque monsieur and cold tea drink.
