Yesterday I went to the most amazing bookstore that used to be an old barn. Thousands of books, many over 100yrs old. Some of them had little scraps left inside - a remembrance of another time. 4 floors of books and downstairs, a wood burning stove crackling. I will be back.

Cassie loved watching the birds with me outside on our balcony, serenading me throughout the day while I worked, playing with trash instead of the toys I would buy her, stealing lettuce from my salads, and snuggling together on the couch. It's hard living life without her.

Cassie was diagnosed with cancer over a year ago and she put up a really good fight. Until she couldn't any more. Last Saturday we said our goodbyes together at home.

It's been a week already. Saying goodbye to my furry companion has been the hardest thing I have ever done. She was with me for 17 years, longer than any human (including my family of origin). She was the best girl.
