My main takeaways from Nicky Hager's book: (1) a small group of rich, self-interested and dishonest people did, and are doing, enormous damage to our society, democracy, and laws; (2) we must stamp out political lobbyists and their 'donations'; (3) National, Act and NZ FIRST are corrupt/bullshitters

If this Govt really gave two shits about workers and their travel costs, why, before this petrol cost increase even occurred, were Government-funded care and support workers, being paid about half the costs of their fuel and car depreciation costs? This Govt is about subsidising panicking employers.
000
Sonja Mitchell @sonjamitchell.bsky.social · 24/03/2026
The $50 petrol payment discriminates against those who most need support, ie those in gig/casual jobs and those without any income except a benefit. Businesses/employers could and should plan for events like wars and petrol cost increases and pay/subsidise their own employees' travel costs for work.

Is anyone else hearing rumours of a general strike on women's suffrage day? I guess one way to achieve that legally would be for people en masse to take a day's unpaid leave - ie each tell the employer, rather than ask, that you will be on unpaid leave- like many of us did for the climate strikes.
