second celebration entails seeing the Devo documentary tonight at the local film festival, dressed as extras from one of their 1970’s videos, since N95s are part of the costume. Mark Mothersbaugh will be there!

A white man in his 20s or 30s where is a white suit and a blue shirt, while wearing 3-D glasses, a bowtie, and brown hair, and orange gloves, he squints at the camera. He is surrounded by four sitting people wearing blue surgical caps, 3-D glasses, and white shell style N95 masks.

Day 11 since surgery. Appreciating the cabinetry in the ADU I rent.

Japanese-style drawers in a built-in cabinet progress upward from left to right under what is presumably a staircase. A stuffed Totoro and a hygrometer/thermometer sit on one shelf.

Greetings from having my foot elevated above my heart for the next few weeks for ankle surgery recovery. From those of us not doing much physical standing, thank you to everyone who can @standupforscience.bsky.social and advocate for our federal bureaucracy & science infrastructure.

a splinted ankle wrapped in white & beige ace bandages rests on a black metal table outside, photographed from the viewpoint of the human the ankle is attached to. on a sunny day, a locust tree and assorted shrubs and trees in winter cast shadows on dry grass in the background.

Best week of my life. I have never laughed so much over such a protracted period. When you work with professionals it hardly feels like work.

And it is _definitely_ not a good idea replace this vintage 70’s relay with a $15 solid-state single-pole normally open relay because apparently those catch fire and get stuck in the closed position. So now I’m looking up modern $80 relays with heat syncs.

A hella vintage single-pole normally open relay from the 1970s with a small transformer on top mounted on a black wall next to a water heater with instructions written on its side in english. Several copper pipes, gas lines, power cables, and conduits run through the frame.

In other “fun” news, the radiant heat in my unit stopped being reliable the day my duplexmates/landlords who built the system went out of town for 2.5 weeks. I’m learning so much about relays, overflow preventers, and more! Rebooting the relay daily seems to help.

A tangle of copper pipes and conduits connect a gas hot water heater, a propane tank, a relay, and a series of hoses running down out of the frame inside a broom closet.

Today has been a day for screaming inside my heart. Here’s a spectacular sunset from a few nights back.

A red orange sunset of a very well formed cloud bank, possibly something remaining from a thunderstorm with different layers of clouds, reflects light onto the roofs of houses below. To the right, the sky is a dusky blue.

Made this quilt for a friend after they came out as non-binary to their Chinese family, and received a new Chinese name (“Bright Flow”). The center is laser-cut reverse appliqué made of fabric from their baby blanket, with trapunto underneath.

Speaking of quilts, if you are in Boulder, please go check out the quilt top I have at the Boulder Public Library’s “maker made“ show until November 13. Took over six months to make! A very kind library makerspace employee aimed a gallery light at it; can’t miss it when you’re walking in.

A 62“ x 62” square quilt hangs on the white wall of a gallery over a handrail. It has a bright central mariner’s compass made of orange, turquoise, purple, and yellow batiks on a background of vivid cobalt blue, surrounded by a curvy orange batik border, with a frame of dark purple eggplant.

One of the things I love most about Boulder is sunflower season.

Feral sunflowers, 6” across with black centers and yellow petals, grow on a stalk about 5’ tall. A concrete path extends to the right with hills dotted with trees in the background, some houses in the mid background, and clouds in the sky.

#SaltingTheVibe during some lousy outdoor air quality the other week. Really love how comfortable 3M Auras are! They’re great for wearing all day at work, too.

A white person with brown hair pulled back wears a white 3M Aura in the driver’s seat of the car. They have sunglasses around their neck and a medical alert bracelet on the left wrist as they give a thumbs up to the camera. They’re wearing a white shirt with a small floral print by Liberty of London. There are green bushes outside of the car seen through a window.

This is Cusco. He loves chasing turkey vultures off the roof of the barn. He loves destroying screen doors. Most of all? He loves motor vehicles, particularly trucks. He’s stowed away for trips up to 10 miles before being discovered. He’s ridden off in delivery trucks and on the roofs of cars.

In 2009–2012 I was on the board for a 501c7 non-profit in California that owns a building. This last week I finally read about ‘soft stories’ and ‘shear walls’ and now I’m somewhat distressed about having seen what passes for the building’s foundation… mere feet from the San Andreas fault.

Large concrete piers support a deck; in the background, large blocks of concrete provide the foundation for a building. They all rest on mud and rocks.

Hello to this corner of the internet! Missed you all. Been doing a little quilting in the last year and a half. Here’s my second quilt, “Unicorns & Glitter,” resplendent in purple and turquoise. Will post progress updates for other projects…

A quilt approximately 60” x 72” is held by two people in front of sagebrush. The quilt is made of dark and light purple and turquoise equilateral triangles with predominately cat, unicorn, and space motifs.
