🚨 BIG NEWS. A federal court just declared unlawful and blocked a series of Trump admin policies heavily restricting legal immigration since last December. The judge overturns "pauses" on immigration benefits for nationals of disfavored countries, as well as related policies.

MEMORANDUM AND ORDER JOHN J. MCCONNELL, JR., United States District Court Chief Judge. More than six months ago, the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (“USCIS”) enacted a series of policies that threw the lives of countless immigrants living in the United States into indeterminate legal limbo. The agency announced that it would be placing an indefinite pause on the adjudication of immigration benefit requests for individuals from thirty-nine African, Asian, Latin American, and Middle Eastern countries. Since then, individuals from these countries have been categorically barred from receiving final decisions on, among other things, their asylum, work permit, green card, and citizenship applications. And USCIS’s hold on adjudications cannot be attributed to anything that these individuals did wrong; rather, it arises solely by the happenstance of their birth.

Tonight in Olympia! So honored to play somewhere Elliott Smith did. Movie starts at 7 sharp. It’s been such a dream sharing this score with people, living dangerously from scene to scene.

ICE operations at immigration courts intensified today. Brief 🧵on what's happening: - A person facing removal shows up for a hearing. - At the hearing, ICE unexpectedly asks the immigration judge to dismiss the case without prejudice. - If the judge says yes, the hearing ends, court is over. 1/4

🚨Reports around the country today that some people who showed up for their immigration court hearings were told that ICE prosecutors had dismissed their cases — and then were arrested moments later by ICE officers and taken to detention centers for unknown reasons. Happening in multiple cities.

Don’t look away. This is what Libya’s migrant detention facilities look like. This is what Trump is doing. Amnesty International called Libya’s migrant detention centers a “hellscape,” where beatings and sexual violence are rampant and there are many reports of trafficking and even slavery.

A picture of an incredibly grim room, filed with depressed-looking African men, in filthy clothes laying on filthy mattresses in a filthy detention center with bars on the window. Everyone looks like the life has gone out of them.
