Minnesota is like Oregon, dense first-world urban area that usually keeps things pretty blue, and some deep-red third-world area out in the exurbs.

Nah. Every flight gets reviewed after the fact, and if, in retrospect, it's not closely tied to official duties, he's on the hook for all costs.

Congress needs to audit (a) the White House budget and (b) Trump (and his family), and collect anything beyond his salary that he's grifted for the Treasury general fund (including that offshore account that Venezuelan oil revenue is going to).

Sooner the bubble pops, the better we'll all be.

Well... We're supposed to be making America great again, so maybe we could try this on a couple bajillionaires and see if we get any greater. Or at least feel better about our lot.

Everyone reads the story as a kid. Read it as an adult, when you've actually dealt with a wider swath of humanity, and Edmund pops as an addict.

The author is very fond of allegory, served in WW1, and (very likely) knew people he served with resorting to self-medicating with opiates that made their way to England via Turkey. Addiction and all that. But yeah, Edmund totally sold out family members for a tasty Turkish dessert.

Hegseth lost Iran, so his fate is pretty much sealed. But given the absolute failure of Congress to make checks and balances A Thing(tm), I'd hesitate to recommend this to anyone who isn't a fairly fashy straight white evangelical male (redundant, I realize), because the purges aren't going to stop.

(In fairness, most of the techbros were there, they just hadn't metastisized yet.)

Sadly, no. Dems, despite their best efforts, will probably gain control over at least one house of Congress, and then they will promptly decide to have a few half-hearted investigations (that Trump appointees will completely ignore) and then decide to let bygones be bygones.

We fucking loved it, in no small part because the tech bros hadn't converted the enshitification-ray to full auto and started doing drive-bys on anything that brought people happiness.

(And then, as now, the racist dogwhistles were deafening, and it was actively weaponized by political parties, usually ones that Americans euphemistically refer to as "conservative".)

Gonna point that we've had the same kind of wingnuttery currently found of Fox on the radio (especially AM radio) since the 1920s (admittedly, with less bottle-blonde hair and bad cosmetic surgery). Which certainly supports the point that we've always had cranks.

The real challenge is if they're willing to put both of them on the same stage at the same time...

I didn't think this was winnable before, but Trump, especially speaking about a female candidate, is capable of inflicting a lot of damage...

At some level, I wonder how much was actual popularity, and how much of it was that it was the first comic that people who didn't really read the comics could think of when asked what their favorite comic was.

Weird that Konigsberg doesn't get a mention in this plan to reunify Greater Germany. (Yes, I realize most people of German ancestry got, uh, "relocated" about the time it got renamed.)

Which leads to a vicious cycle of bad decision-making. Because managers tend to value certainty over expertise, meaning the opinion presented by the confident-but-not-smart person is likely to be valued over the one presented by the smart-but-admitting-the-potential-for-error.

Jobs like Fire/EMS, and emergency medicine in general. (Although social media has made it a bit worse, because now the idiots are getting Clever Ideas(tm). And I suspect, over time, AI is going to make it a _lot_ worse with it's misplaced-overconfidence-as-a-service model.)

Russia is a land of opportunities! Lots of opportunity for explosive upward movement! A chance to be going places (most of which are, admittedly, within a 10m radius of where Ukraine's welcome gift to you was delivered)!

Women love my (deep-fried) potatoes, judging how often "no, I don't want fries" is the first step in larceny. They don't want their own potato, the larceny makes them taste better.

Counterpoint: DCA. (Which is something the airport authority clearly learned nothing from when they decided that the most important consideration for IAD train station placement was "yes, but what does the terminal look like from short-term parking?")

The coalition will have expectations of Dems if they win the House and/or Senate, and the Dems will probably be quick to disappoint.

They can crank out airframes to offset losses. There are some trivial and incidental bits typically get bolted into those airframes (previously imported) that they're reportedly having problems with.

Vance is just grifting. Pick a candidate who is gonna win by a big enough margin that even Vance's involvement won't sink them, endorse them, claim credit when they win, ask for a moment alone with their couch.

Also, Belarus starts a shooting war with Poland, Ukraine takes the opportunity to whack Russian infrastructure in Belarus (like communication relays used for drones), as well as Belarusian infrastructure (like oil refineries) supporting Russia.

(If it helps formulating your reply... Pope Pious didn't tell anyone to raise the white flag during WW2, despite the very real risk of the Vatican getting invaded by the Fascists and/or the Nazis.)

In March of 2024. "Courage of the White Flag". Was quite the scandal, followed by pretty much every Vatican appologist trying to spin it as "no he didn't mean surrender, combatants raise the white flag all the time for reasons other than surrender".

Pope Francis also called upon the Ukrainians to surrender and accept genocide, so perhaps the things he said are better not examined closely.

It's like political pundits that like to pretend Fox News is a king-maker, despite a number of programs only having viewership numbers in the low 7 digits and being funded mostly by carriage fees extorted from cable TV providers.

Rolling Stone likes to pretend they write about the music industry for audience that pretends they're in the music industry; of course they're going to react badly to the idea that the big-money portion of the industry may be losing influence.

The thing is... None of this is new. This is the broadcast media advertising people insisting that broadcast media is still relevant in face of growing evidence that it isn't, at least not to the extent that it has been in the past.
