Sometimes the castle helps the cats sneak into the food or the treats when it thinks they deserve it. The cats have learned this and will meow and headbutt the wall affectionately until the castle gives in. Killer now has to try and find a eldritch-building proof cat food container.

The castle guiding Killer's (eventually several) cats to places where mice or whatever are hiding, and the cats are happy to catch all those itchy little pests for it. Cat doors and little cat sized passageways, cat towers and cat toys all start mysteriously appearing at one point or another...

This is so real, I get two chapters done at once and I'm like "omg I can post on a regular schedule and get ahead on writing and I'm so coo—" and I post ts the very next day 😭😭😭

And it makes NM laugh by playing jokes on the others in his view. Killer is flirting with him and goes to lean against the wall with that stupid grin on his face and the wall is suddenly just– gone! Killer falls over. NM hasn't laughed that hard in a long time. The castle is proud of that one.

The castle plays all the nicer pranks on Nightmare... It definitely misplaces his pens or his paperwork whenever he's working too much. It irritates Nightmare to no end, but later, he usually tosses a little snack or a sweet treat into the corner... to show his gratitude.

Through a combination of magic and intent. I've got some interesting hcs about ambient magic creating these "auras" that can kind of interact and pass on nonverbal messages, so I think the castle could definitely communicate like that too!

Ooh, I like that! I've thought about this a little before, and so far the castle communicates through stained glass windows and mosaics, and speaks some broken English. It speaks some older languages that only Nightmare knows much better, though. I also think it could communicate in some way

I think Dust just... pets the walls sometimes, and hugs the pillars in the foyer. The castle might or might not feel it, but it means a lot to know its silly inhabitants appreciate it.

The castle doesn't even play mean jokes on him often. No, it's very polite to him. Nightmare is very proud of the castle for being nice to Dust, and not giving into its mischievous nature. (Killer has gone tumbling down two flights of stairs in the past month)

Much English, and it doesn't find speaking easy, but it tries very hard to speak when Dust needs it. It mostly says one word phrases or incomplete sentences. Its voice is a high, whispy, raspy kind of thing. It's like a chorus of whispers made up of people who hadn't spoken in years.

Sometimes, the castle says nice things to Dust. Dust thinks he's losing it in a different font when it first happens, almost half a year into him living at the castle, but he talks to Nightmare about it and he says that the castle must really like him to sing praise about him. Dust isn't sure

Whenever Horror drops something while cooking, he takes great comfort in knowing the castle is being fed and it's not going to waste. Also, the castle is a total champ at making things accessible for Horror. We love the castle, our accessible queen. (Lmao)

just like a certain god was some thousand years ago when this castle accepted him into its walls. So short answer: Horror reminds the castle of Nightmare, when he was much, much younger. The castle loves Horror! Also, Horror cleans the castle out of love, I think.

despite the fact that he's sure Nightmare said that his office is upstairs and the medical room is downstairs... And why does the castle take to him so quickly? Easy. One, he's too physically frail to be a threat to Nightmare. At least at first. Two, he's... small, and frail, and hurting...

a few ifs and ors, and a lot of tears, but he's getting better. Soon enough, he can move again, walk... kind of... he's wobbling like a newborn fawn, but it's progress. The castle cushions him when he falls, has rails along the wall wherever he walks, mysteriously lacks stairs

Nothing too big, not too many options. The last thing he wants is for Horror to feel intimidated by abundance. The castle watches. Listens. Prepares to comfort Nightmare should his new mortal fall so soon. He doesn't. Horror takes to recovery well. A few setbacks, a few scary moments,

(Dust thinks it's great just because it pisses Killer off.) Horror is small, and frail, and hungry, and traumatized, but lucid. He's calculating, and responsible, and still stuck in the calm of crisis. Nightmare works very hard to put him at ease, making a variety of small snacks available to him.

So, Nightmare took him home, determined to save this poor, falling mortal. The castle took an immediate liking to Horror. (Killer was SO salty about this. It took forever to get into the castle's good graces, and it takes to the newbie in two seconds flat???)

Horror, knowing that he could no longer hunt, or fight, or protect, agreed to this deal. What nightmare wanted with him, he couldn't imagine... but he saw a way out. A way to get his brother, his friends, to safety, and he took it. It was a real gift, for someone who was nearly falling.

tired, sick... falling. Nightmare took pity on him. He'd known this feeling of weakness, this feeling that came upon you when you were unable to steward that which you were obligated to by nature. He provided for Horror's AU, ensured that they received care, in return for Horror's service.

Horror was too frail to be much of a threat to anyone. When they found Horror, he was pretty much providing himself to death. So focused on caring for what was left of his community, his family, that he was inching closer and closer to death every day. They found him barely a step away from death,

Horror's relationship with the castle is a pretty positive one. It's always been that way. After all, when he first came to the castle, he was very sick and very hurt. The castle didn't feel the need to protect Nightmare from him like it did the utter threat that was Killer and Dust.
