Its purple orchid season on Achill, they're absolutely everywhere. I think Northern Marsh Orchids(?) but I do not stand over that ID. I'll have to get a better look without the dog. #wildflowerhour

It's all been about the violets and primroses for me since spring finally reached Achill. Saw my first swallow last week, chaffinches too and the first cuckoo of the year. Everything a bit late but getting there. #WildflowerHour

Making progress with a big outdoor project despite being slowed by the weather lately. I usually document more, helps motivate and its good to talk about invasive species but honestly being online lately has been more draining than energising.

This was some of the funnier litter picking I've done. When you see these videos of me talking and singing to myself, I need you to remember that my neighbours do pass me on the road 😅

After I was done getting soaked from the thigh down and cover head to toe in mud while making this video about removing gunnera, a neighbour I hadn't met before stopped me on the road to say their son had sent her my tiktoks, I can only assume the mud gave me away 😂

I've noticed a really strange absence of frogs and frog spawn on Achill this spring. Thinking back I don't think I remember any last year either. Anyone know something I don't?

As a teenager and into my twenties I spent a lot of time in town alone and Pat Ingoldsby was such a fixture of my Saturdays. Conversations with him were never dull and Dublin is all the poorer without him.

This #WorldWetlandsDay I'm celebrating by helping to encourage these seasonal pools where water drains from the field to the stream (translation: splashing around in the mud pulling gunnera roots out and deepening them) if I still have signal later expect pictures of the mess I make of myself.

Trying to get the next podcast script done today, looking at what can be learned about the government's priorities looking at budget 2025 and the PfG: "there is such a sense of status quo with this PfG that the word continue is the 6th most used word appearing 226 times in just 138 pages of text"

The irony is trying to tweet this article because more the SF adjacent friends of mine haven't moved over yet and getting the "hateful conduct" label for using the word cis.

In case you were worried that the Programme for Government wasn't a love letter to the status quo then have no fear, the word "continue" is the sixth most used word in the document and appears 226 times in just 162 pages.
a word cloud generated from the text of the Programme for Government with the largest words being "support "government" "will" "ensure" and "continue"

in fairness yes, but its all a bit vague "we're going to make it better"ish in a document like this (page 97)

This is a clever bit of math obfuscation that I'm too tired to break the calculator out for, but I'm checking in the morning if this from the PfG even lines up with our already legally binding climate targets. Surely they're not encouraging a second climate law suit?
A paragraph from the current Programme for Government reading "This government will deliver actions to achieve a 51% reduction in emissions from 2018 to 2030 and net-zero emissions no later than 2050."
