They're totally anonymous. I don't sign into anything unless I subscribe. Habitually clear cookies, too. Don't watch TV either but video of local interest hits TV station sites before social media. Local ad-supported newspaper sites are where I see a lot of those polls; must generate some income

They means test the poor to prove they’re poor. They don’t means test the rich to prove they’re creating jobs and paying living wages. They don’t trust poor people which is why they think the poor are thieves and wastrels. Yet they give unlimited trust to the wealthy. It’s the prosperity gospel.

Getting SNAP or Section 8 benefits isn't like living on a trust fund. Republicans seem to believe if you give a poor person a little help, you've created a wastrel (lol, I had to consult the dictionary to come up with that word)

Bottom line: fed gov will be able to do little more than pay for wars, SS & Medicare after Project 2025 is finished. Dems w good intentions will have no budget until income tax rates increase & billionaires' pay wealth tax. Increasing tax revenue must be job #1 before any New Deal type legislation

What about those interactive polls common on local newspaper & TV station sites? Below a story there's a multiple choice poll (4-5 questions at a time, mixing political w other stuff, then you get a bar graph of current results). I find those polls to be quite "more-ish" -- I always do >1

Actually if you're wearing one outside to keep sun off your face & you move in close to work on something (e.g. in carpentry or gardening), there's often no choice but to swivel the cap around backwards so it doesn't interfere with your sight line. That's one of only a few good excuses for doing it.

I'd say all the modernist film scores of the 1960s owe a big debt to "Atmospheres" (1961). Well before Ligeti gained fame via Kubrick's 2001, film composers were lifting ideas from his work. E.g. Jerry Goldsmiths great dissonant '60s scores

Even if what Israel has done in Gaza doesn't meet the precise legal definition of genocide, it's still criminal, on multiple levels. The atrocities are well documented. And pictures of the devastation tell the story of Israel's war crimes quite eloquently. www.newsweek.com/what-if-isra...

What if Israel isn't committing genocide in Gaza?

Way to sabotage the point with identity bs. Workers are white, black, queer, straight, christian, moslem, etc. It's about class: rich fuckers exploiting workers. It's not always about identity. This is why the US is screwed: poor people fight identity battles instead of unite against the owner class

If comparing Kalshi with Wall St. is an effective tactic to claim that it's some kind of legit market & not just a slightly new form of gambling, then we need to confront the reality that Wall St financial markets are essentially games in a big, fat casino

Everyone knows by now all you need to do to win Trump's support is flatter him, stroke his ego. And there's no better way to do so than put his name on something. Trump got a little firm with Netanyahu for 5 minutes, but just sent Israel $2B worth of bombs... obviously, Bibi has Trump in his pocket.

Remember, according to polls 80% of Israeli public supports the genocide. They don't necessarily like Bibi, bc he's a corrupt slimeball in bed with ultra-orthodox idiots, but they're largely united in support of turning Gaza into a parking lot.

I've experienced various "projected" aromas from flowers, e.g. jasmine & angel's trumpet in LA...like a block away from the location of the flowers, you'll encounter a cloud of fragrance as if they're right next to you. Interesting phenomenon. Maybe the botanical nature of weed smoke enables same.

The rotten monster has been at it for ages. Bonwit Teller 1980 Trump just turned 34 years old. "Then they jackhammered the friezes, dislodged them with crowbars, and pushed the remains inside the building, where they fell to the ground and shattered in a million pieces."

New York City trumped
Developer smashes panels
By Michael Leccese
Two irreplacable Art Deco sculptures were smashed by jackhammers last month under orders from a New York City developer who had promised them to the Metropolitan Museum of Art.
The 15-foot-high stone bas-relief sculprures, which depicted semi-nude goddesses, were part of the Bonwit-Teller building (Warren and Wetmore,
1929) on Manhattan's Fifth Avenue at S6th Street. Developer Donald Trump bought the structure recently and was demolishing it to build a 62-story. $100
million mixed-use glass tower.
In addition, a 15-by-25 foot nickel. plated grille that had adorned the build. ing's facade has been missing since it was supposed to have been shipped to a New Jersey warehouse. Neither the Trump Organization nor the warehouse has any idea of the whereabouts of the hefty....MotherJones

To build his skyscraper, Trump first had to knock down the Bonwit Teller building, a luxurious limestone building erected in 1929.
The face of the building featured two huge
Art Deco friezes that the Metropolitan Museum of Art wanted to preserve. The museum asked Trump to save the sculptures and donate them, and the mogul agreed-as long as the cost of doing so wasn't too high.
But then, according to journalist Harry Hurt Ill in his book Lost Tycoon, Trump discovered that taking out the sculptures would delay demolition by two weeks. He wasn't willing to wait. "On his orders, the demolition workers cut up the grillwork with acetylene torches," Hurt wrote. "Then they jackhammered the friezes, dislodged them with crowbars, and pushed the remains inside the building, where they fell to the floor and shattered in a million pieces."In 1980, under pressure to begin construction on what would become his signature project, Donald Trump employed a crew of 200 undocumented Polish workers who worked in 12-hour shifts, without gloves, hard hats or masks, to demolish the Bonwit Teller building on New York's Fifth Avenue, where the 58-story, golden-hued Trump Tower now stands.
The workers were paid as little as $4 (£3) an hour for their dangerous labour, less than half the union wage, if they got paid at all.

I think there's a good argument to be made for "lapsed faith" as the most socially beneficial form of religion in any context. Exposure to all the guilt, shame, morals & ritual when you're a little kid, then a natural shedding of the underlying belief structure as you mature & acquire knowledge.
