Bipartisan with Democratic public officials and party leadership, but not democratic voters who are overwhelmingly against Israel. Elected officials lag public sentiment and elections are correcting for that (See Brad Lander).

I doubt he can explain it. Your point is valid. If Mao took power and the curve went up, it points to a causal effect. Perhaps it’s something else, but it can’t be dismissed in such a flippant manner. “Comparative and counterfactual” analysis seems to support the original claim, not refute it.

I think you need to explain how anything you’ve posted exposes the fallacy. It could be something else, but you don’t even attempt to make such a claim.

“Comparative and counterfactual analysis”. Yeah it shows China closed the gap with a greater rate of improvement post 1950.

John Brown @solidarietas.bsky.social · 20/09/2026
China closed the gap. There was a meaningful additional improvement in rate wrt comparative nations. Are you arguing that isn’t true or that the additional rate of improvement was from something else?

John Brown @solidarietas.bsky.social · 19/09/2026
The relative slopes see similar before and after. Would he not get credit for setting China up to close the gap if the closure rate started under him?

IMHO the taxonomy of right-wing beliefs is: 1) Dipshits who "don't like politics" meaning they don't think at all, just herd behavior 2) Dullards soaked in propaganda who believe they're thinking 3) Downright malicious people who just want to cause harm. Material grievances are tangential at best.

What I object to is the framing. "Running out of money" is rhetoric to drive benefits cuts. It makes people think cuts are a reality they need to accept. It's a manfuactured crisis for that purpose. So adopting their framing only serves to support their end goal - to cut benefits.

Social Security "running out of money". It's an accounting gimmick fixable by congress with a few sentences.

Seems there is an important distinction between "went to far" meaning the expansion of rights itself as the problem vs the reaction to it having had negative effects. The latter is essentially the jeopardy thesis against change from Rhetoric of Reaction. Is there an example of the former?

If only simple indisputable truths like this would be widely understood. Also see the clearing of the field and stacking the deck for Hillary in 2016, the party power play for Biden in 2020, and the electability of moderate candidates.

The field was cleared for Biden, and yes people complained. My point is that to judge if a woman can win ignores their path to the nomination.

John Brown @solidarietas.bsky.social · 24/07/2026
At least recognize that the party cleared the field and stacked the deck for Hillary, and then handed the nomination to Kamala. It was most unfair to Kamala because she was put in an awful situation and asked to cover for the mistake of an old selfish man.

Let’s run a woman who isn’t handed the nomination. It’s a disservice to them. AOC will be forced to earn it and if she does she will win.
