Amazing and depressin in equal measures that, in this of all weathers, people complain about trees and the shade they bring. Maybe we shouldn't build houses so close to old, established trees in the first place?

Unfortunately I, sometimes, despite my best efforts, catch some of the news. (I'm rather sad to have missed Kraftwerk this time - was at the Free Trade Hall to see them on the Computer World tour)

I guess it all depends on whether you're appreciated by the ruling cockroaches, or whatever other species arises from our ruins.

That it's a process best not rushed. Once opinions are formed, people tend to defend them rather than consider whether they were formed in haste or with insufficient data. I think ditherers need more credit in general. Or do I?

I haven't. Yet. I try and form opinions slowly and air them even more so.

Urban planning here in Lancashire is a grim story of building firms fighting for every last green space and councils unable to do anything but feebly fight the obvious battles, which even if they somehow win, they eventually lose after - possibly multiple - appeals.

smokyfrog (Paul Nagle, softroom, WilyEPeyote etc.) @softroom.bsky.social · 24/05/2026
The "redundant land that is not used" argument is used by many a council to justify excessive development on green sites that *are* actually in use - just by nature. I think we need to get away from the idea that land only matters if it's making money for someone.

For those interested, here's an old tune of mine given the AI treatment. soundcloud.com/paul-nagle-5...

Paul Nagle - Mystique AI
One example of an old tune given the AI treatment. Don't worry, this was purely an experiment. Like dipping your cock into a mincing machine to see if it's the way forward.

For me the biggest shift was giving producers the tools and (somehow) the authority to replace bands and the old dynamic of trying and failing before an audience. So I guess once you've got a powerful enough DAW and the time to "perfect" every note, it's a downwards spiral.

A good friend of mine and proper film composer put some of my early tracks through an AI thing. They came out sounding slick, perfect, polished and in as many styles as you could dream up. It's like a gave the score to some LA MOR covers band. Gonna stick to my messy and imperfect noodles!

It's to make it easier for AI to justify itself. Personally, I'm making quite a bit of teal music :)

The joys of bandcamp! While searching for Alice Boyd and her harpist friend Rachel (they supported Yann Tiersen in Manchester on Tuesday), I discovered Rachael Boyd. She also produces wonderful music - so my cup overfloweth, as they say. Happy Friday!

Mmmm lovely. Reckon it'd be a brilliant idea to build zillions more houses in Longridge and all along that road then. Later, someone will come up with the equally brilliant idea to slice and dice the remaining green spaces with more roads to fix everything.

The GoT ending was quite believable and so disappointed the masses. Breaking Bad's ending was not at all believable but incredibly satisfying. So I guess, in these troubled times, we all want to suspend belief and get what we want or think should have happened. E.g. Trump having a stroke.

The bridge is perfectly functional without lighting, why delay opening? Also, we have more than enough light pollution already.
