They spent tens of thousands of dollars for us to make dozens of custom one off brackets that were clearly drawn up as bandaids when their assemblies didn't fit together, instead of resigning their projects to use standardized or off the shelf hardware.

CAD models riddled with unnecessary edges from misaligned booleans. Virtually no blueprints. Assemblies that didn't fit together because no one thought to look at tolerance stacks. Impossible angles, un-machinable features.

I worked for a prototyping machine shop that made parts for meta's vr hardware. Some of the worst designed parts I've ever had to manufacture, churned out by a constantly shifting team of designers with absolutely no frame of reference for how much something should cost to make.

I think the thing that strikes me is that Kraftwerk and similar acts like Jean Michael-Jarre's music presented as much more intentionally experimental. This feels more like a straightforward bop just released at a time when the average listener had no idea music could sound like that.

I mean it's believable because "I Feel Love" came out the same year and that defined generations of electronic music, but still... Something about the lack of vocals and commitment to synthesizers that sound nothing like traditional instruments feels prescient.
