My mixed planter of flytraps and pitcher plants (locally greenhouse grown) has done really well. First time I've really ever been successful with them.

Some photos from a hike today at Waconia Bluffs, south of Redwing, MN. Despite being cooler than it has been, it was still hot in the open sun and the huskies needed frequent breaks in the shade.

Two different butterflies on bright orange Butterfly Weed.

This Bumblebee was huge, though it is hard to tell from this photo. We mistook it for a Hawk Moth at first.

Goat Weed is uncommon but often found on bluff top prairies.

It's been a cold spring in Minnesota (with some crazy warm outliers) with a Northerly flow, which means bird migration has been... unimpressive. Finally got a Gray Catbird today, and only just the last couple days have seen Rose-Breasted Grosbeaks. Here is one looking grumpy about it.

The Crabapple tree in our front yard looks lovely for about five days before all the flowers fall off and it goes back to looking like a normal tree. Have a little glory, as a treat!

At some point I saw someone post a version of this that showed multiple continuing plateaus, which better represents how you learn a neverending skill like art or writing. If someone could re-point me to that, I would be super grateful!

Starting to get my office filled out with plants. Got some seeds starting and repotted a bunch of things yesterday. Couldn't resist the frog succulent planter at the garden center. That frog has seen things, man...

A blue frog planter filled with succulents. The frog has an expression of disbelief and concern, with which I can relate. Above it is a drum with huskies painted on it by Foxfeather, with Blotch are left and right. A plush wombat and the Biting Pear sit on the shelf with the frog.

A wide view of the whole plant stand setup. Still working on placement and LED lighting, and I have too many tall plants to fit the current shelves, but getting there. My birding parabolic mic stands in the front, ready for easy deployment.

We have this lone mandarin in our kitchen that keeps getting smaller and denser and darker. At this point I’m wondering if it will eventually become so dense that it creates a singularity and starts pulling all orangeness into itself.

A very sad, very dry mandarin orange that may end up dooming us all, or may become a new culinary sensation.
