Don’t ask which politician you dislike. Ask what kind of country their policies will build. Read the policies. Compare the trade-offs. Ask who benefits, who pays, and what future they point toward.

Nearly 4 in 10 eligible young New Zealanders aged 18–24 are not enrolled to vote. That is not just an election problem. It is a civic-readiness problem. Democracy should not begin at 18. By then, young people should already understand how voting works, how government works, and how to participate.

30 days to go. 🇳🇿 A healthy democracy does not require us to agree. It requires us to disagree without abandoning truth, dignity or respect for one another. Listen carefully. Challenge respectfully. Democracy belongs to all of us. #NZElection2026 #Democracy #Aotearoa

Pillars of New Zealand Leadership · Part 3/4 Jacinda Ardern — Humanity as Strength Our third pillar looks at leadership through some of New Zealand’s most difficult recent moments — including the Christchurch mosque attacks and the COVID-19 pandemic.
Jacinda Ardern, wearing a black headscarf, embraces a woman from New Zealand’s Muslim community following the Christchurch mosque attacks. The moment reflects the message of solidarity expressed in Ardern’s words: “They are us.”

Tonight’s TVNZ leaders’ debate ended with its undecided studio audience at Hipkins 49%, Luxon 24%, undecided 27%. But the wider story is bigger than either leader: today’s 1News-Verian poll puts Labour + National at just 57% combined. MMP is doing what MMP was designed to do. #nzpol

Election 2026 live: New poll sees National crash ahead as Hipkins, Luxon prepare for first debate
RNZ's latest political poll - the first during the election campaign - is out, hours before the two major party leaders face off in TVNZ's debate.

Tonight, Luxon and Hipkins go head-to-head. National enters the debate on just 25.9% in today's RNZ–Reid poll. Labour isn't exactly soaring, either. So tonight isn't just about red versus blue. It's about whether either major party can convince voters increasingly looking elsewhere.

Pillars of New Zealand Leadership · Part 2/4 Norman Kirk believed leadership was about more than managing the present. It was about giving people something to hope for — and backing that hope with action, from social policy at home to a more independent New Zealand voice abroad. Link below 👇
Prime Minister Norman Kirk walking hand-in-hand with a young Māori boy at Waitangi on 6 February 1973. The black-and-white photograph became one of the enduring images of Kirk’s prime ministership and was widely seen as symbolising a new era of partnership between Māori and Pākehā.

Democracy doesn’t require us to agree. It requires us to participate. You can be frustrated with politics, disappointed by parties, or unconvinced by the choices on offer. But opting out doesn’t strengthen your voice. Use it. #NZElection2026 #Democracy #Aotearoa
