Built that maim-bot just like you asked, boss. Cool. Did you clear it with legal first? Uh...

It's the same with the Web and big business. At first, everyone was sure that low barriers to entry would ensure healthy competition in perpetuity. And when upstarts like Amazon defeated titans like Sears, it seemed true! But it turned out to be a monopoly engine. Tech-utopians got a lot wrong.

The point of this story is 100% true but I can't imagine $10k would raise any eyebrows at these companies. I once worked for a fake gambling site (slot machines you could spend real money on, but paid out only in-game currency) and our "whales" spent six figures.

How does a single mailman tossing hundreds of ballots justify giving the USPS power to toss hundreds of thousands of ballots? Are they arguing he didn't go far enough??

Dems should judo flip the issue by releasing an ad that says "Every time you see an attack ad about trans kids, remember, it's because they have nothing to say about the price of gas or groceries."

This could be a legitimate safety issue in a natural disaster where other forms of communication are overwhelmed or knocked out entirely. On the other hand, how many people under 50 would even think to turn on a radio in an emergency?

The trouble with letting them go is that, when they realize they are still miserable, they will blame us and, "us" now being a foreign country, will be obligated to declare actual war on us at least once every generation.

Not to be reductive, but a lot of the discourse about the discourse on Bluesky can be explained by neurodivergent justice sensitivity. neurodivergentinsights.com/glossary/jus...

Justice sensitivity | Neurodivergent Insights
Dr Neff explains 'Justice sensitivity'. A heightened response to unfairness or harm. It sometimes correlates with autism and ADHD.

Spent a few minutes donating $5-20 to all Dem Senate candidates (and 1 Independent) not marked "Safe" R or D on fiftyplusone.news/forecast/. I give most to Toss Ups, and progressively less to Lean and Likely races on both sides. Probably not an optimal strategy but I'll do nothing if I overthink it.

Everyone's talking about his base but what about the idiot media? How many will actually push back? How much of that push back will be visible in the headlines which is all most people read?

I get why people are nervous/upset but "if it risks safety or fairness" is a huge out. I don't think he's accepting the premise so much as setting it up to knock it down later.

This seems like an organized campaign to oust Ken Martin as chair of the DNC. The reason they don't have cash "on hand" is that they've already disbursed it to the state parties. That they're attacking the number instead of the strategy tells me the strategy is popular.

Dems should seriously run on things that already exist -- but don't currently function -- as if they are new ideas. "If elected, I will use the power of the government to track infectious and food-borne illnesses and prevent their spread!"

God, I've been struggling not to post my lukewarm Platner takes, especially now that their shelf life might be measured in hours. I have nothing insightful to say and nobody asked, but at least I've actually been to Maine! (as a child, decades ago)

Sooo much of what passes for conservatism these days is just "I can't admit I'm mad at my parents so I'll take it out on everyone else instead."

Tech billionaires seem to have mapped some societal trends out to their most dystopian conclusion and, rather than asking how to avoid that outcome, asked "How do we accelerate this so that we can position ourselves to be the biggest beneficiaries?"

Apart from the safety issues, this stuck out: "The cost of making bigger vehicles is usually not much higher than it is for cars ... Yet ... The average sticker price for a full-size pickup is double that of a sedan." If there's not a supply bottleneck, doesn't that indicate monopoly or collusion?

The A pillars are vexxing because they at least increase safety for passengers, but there's no good reason for taller hoods. We should absolutely require CDLs for hoods over 36 inches.

Honestly, without knowing who said this, I thought it was a progressive message. Like, "Yeah, minorities should feel safe and welcome anywhere in this country!" Then, sadly, "Oh, you meant the other thing."

I've long been frustrated by how personal Dem campaigns are, targeting individual candidates but ignoring the Republican party itself. Maybe that made sense 20 years ago when politics was less nationalized, but it makes no sense now and Republicans haven't shown that restraint in at least 40 years.
010
Socrates Jacques-Ortiz @socratesjaqueortiz.bsky.social · 15/06/2026
They DON'T know it's wrong. All they know is, when a Republican does something, it feels right. When a Democrat does something, it feels wrong. They don't even know they're told to feel that way by people who think they're suckers. Unless you mean the Republicans who tell the suckers what to think.

Leading edge Gen X is an important distinction. Xoomers and Xennials are real, with distinct voting patterns and cultural touchstones. As the pace of technological and cultural change increases, generational boundaries shrink. Increasingly, the zeitgeist has ADD.

Seems like a matter of inflection points. Michael Jackson was bigger than Nirvana in '91 but was already fading. Extreme (could've sworn it was Nelson) was a blip at the end of the 80s hair metal. Nirvana changed the cultural trajectory, which must be measurable, but not by same year album sales...

I think you have to establish where the fault lies up front. If you say "cover your drinks" and your audience hears "keep your legs closed," then that probably wasn't done well. "You alone have agency" is a deflating message, but "you ALSO have agency" is empowering.

Follow up question: where's the fucking punk rock? When Gen X felt alienated, we (collectively, not me personally) made amazing music about it. Has the atomization of culture destroyed Gen Z's capacity to connect with each other? Or is it happening and I'm just too old and out of touch to notice?
