Mechanicsburg eighth grader Sai Sri Valli Moglineedi is a finalist in the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge for her research on a slow-dissolving antacid to improve heartburn relief.
local21news.com
Mechanicsburg middle schooler named a finalist in national STEM research competition
A middle schooler from Mechanicsburg was named a finalist in a national research competition this week. Sai Sri Valli Moglineedi, an eighth grader at Mountain View Middle School, will travel to Washington, DC, to compete against other young scientific minds as part of the Thermo Fisher Scientific Junior Innovators Challenge. Moglineedi is creating an antacid that would take longer to dissolve in stomach acid, which could provide more relief for heartburn than over-the-counter medications. She said she was inspired for the project because her grandfather suffered from heart burn, according to a release from The Society for Science. (Courtesy of Society for Science) Moglineedi said she's involved in Science Olympiad, plays the violin and oboe, does Kuchipudi — a form of Indian classical dance — and volunteers to help put together craft kits for children in the hospital. Moglineedi will compete with 29 other finalists from Oct. 23-28, where judges will evaluate their research, as well as their communication and creativity in team challenges.
