The traditional route of university based courses continues to be the most common route into the social work profession. However, we are seeing a consistent increase in the number of apprenticeship courses. Read more on our website: ow.ly/wgbL50Zf6KA
‘Traditional’ university-based courses continue to be the most common route into the social work profession (58.3% of current courses).  We have observed an ongoing increase in the number of social work undergraduate degree apprenticeships. In 2025 Social Work England approved 44 undergraduate apprenticeship courses and 11 new postgraduate apprenticeships.

At March 2025, there were 355 qualifying social work courses in England, delivered by 75 providers. Overall, we can see that the number of undergraduate and postgraduate courses have both steadily increased since we first reported in 2021. ow.ly/PI4v50YOYUK
