Hopefully people like @carlbergstrom.com can find the R0. We don't know enough yet to know if we should worry imo.

I think people just aren't as smart on the topic as the old school software engines who have spent a lifetime studying algorithms.

Computers have been used in proof finding since Robbins Conjecture (1996). But it's new to everyone, so AI must be thinking.

For example, some people view rising rates as a good thing because it means AI is strong like bull. There is no real thought about what happens to the debt of the US government past 5%.

The most amazing thing about it in my view is that people use AI as a magical oracle that solves all problems and eliminates all risk. It really dominates the corporate conversation.

But perhaps the most worrying thing to me is that these tools can be used to suppress people to create a society more corrosive than anything imagined in 1984. Example: Try a game like this

People also mistake fluency with competency, and I worry that more bad ideas will get accepted across government and corporations because those ideas sounded fluent.

I think it is a very powerful human to computer interface, and it does come with risks. I'm concerned about it weaponizing the Dunning Kruger effect. People think that just because they can prompt the system that they can also validate the correctness of its output even if the topic requires experts

elon musk on: stealth aircraft (for the record: everyone involved with low-observable aircraft is acutely aware that they are not "invisible," they just have an rcs so small they can't be effectively detected until they are close enough to have already launched weapons and that is super useful.)

A hypothesis likely to make a lot of BlueSky mad: A large part of Mamdani’s popularity is that his bark is WAY bigger than his bite, and he actually hasn’t done (or been able to do) much that is really THAT radical, leaving his largely likeable persona.

I would nominate Sinister. I watched it with a girl one time and programed the computer to wake up in the middle of the night with a video of this guy. She didn't think it was funny.

This is why the judicial wars was stupid. I don't know how you save the court now. What party is going to say, ok, let's go back to the 2/3rds majority to put a justice on the court when they can vote along partisan lines?

The risk of US companies having their AI agents holding a hospital hostage is nonsensical. As soon as they were notified, they would intervene. The big risk right now from where I sit is weaponizing the dunning kruger effect.

Cold war tactics isn't going to bail out claims that the Bush circle was fascists. The Cheney's voted for Harris for God's sake. Leftest said they couldn't because genocide.

The big hurdle for the United States is that it lacks the industrial base to take technologies like machine learning to the physical world. It's going to be China who leads that particular effort.

People like @radiofreetom.bsky.social worry that this behavior will cost democrats the election. At this point in the program, I'm worried that it doesn't matter if democrats win. That factionalism is just so standardized now that there isn't much concern about the common good.

Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
You can see that happening even out here on Bluesky. People will say fascism is spreading, but they can't vote for a democrat that stands in opposition to that fascism unless they support their pet peeve issue in sports. It's really hard to save a republic in this state.

Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
What we have now is what the founding fathers called factionalism. It was a known risk case that republics like ours can turn to factionalism if it gets wealthy enough. That is why they rattled on about civic virtue. Because people are well off, there is less concern about the common good.

Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
No, it did in fact use to be normal to not only disagree but there was some expectation of finding common ground. I use to love politics when I was young because at the time republicans and democrats alike respected the rules of debate.

Also I'd take conservatives like Liz Cheney over that of the left. When it comes voting time, she won't be on social media arguing how Trump won't be so bad like so many leftists. Ya know... something something Genocide. She'll show up and vote with us.

No, you're just stupidly far to the left that a center left person looks conservative.

He also had a lot to say about gay people. If someone said what he said today about gays, you'd call him a fascist. Those "sensible-at the time-liberals" delivered a civil rights bill.

These days I have empathy with conservatives who don't like MAGA using that word because they aren't really conservatives. Fools who call themselves the left make real liberals look bad.

Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The left wing of the democratic party is comprised of a lot of very childish people who are lonely and looking for a sense of belonging and some sense of self actualization. They aren't civic minded adults trying to create a serious opposition to fascism.

Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
If the left really believed this was fascism, that a Hitler like phenomenon was taking shape, stupid arguments about sports wouldn't be seen as deal breakers. And they are stupid arguments that are more about loyalty tests than sound defenses of rights.
100
Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The left's talking points don't orbit stopping fascism but instead they focus on their partisan pet peeves. Every other day democrats talk about why they can't vote for a democrat like Talarico because their central issue is a stupid argument about sports.
100
Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
This is demonstrable. If you really believed this was fascism, then you'd be afraid of the death machine that gets born out of it. Here you have someone outside your tribe taking a stance that requires political courage, and your reaction is to attack him.
100
Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
The left's argument is that the democratic party just isn't tribal enough. There isn't enough loyalty tests and stupidity in the party. You don't really believe all of this is fascism.
100
Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Frankly, my worries today is that it won't even matter if democrats win because they aren't serious enough to pull the nose up. Many countries around the world are coming to this exact conclusion. It's why they are making the calculations they are making like on Gold. It's not just Trump.
100
Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Some of the best critics of Trumpism came from Bush circles. One of the big problems with the democratic party is that it has become too tribal where partisan affiliation and loyalty tests are put forward in the place of sound argumentation.

Social Distancing Cat @socialdistantcat.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Making the argument that the Bush family, that famously said "Mr. Gorbachev, tear down this wall!", were really secret Nazis requires quite the mental contortion. Democrats are starting to lose internal checks just like Trumpers did.

Unlike his father, I thought Bush Jr wasn't serious enough for the job. But at no time did I think Bush would betray the country or attempt a dictatorship. He was a loyal American who believed in freedom.

I think there is an argument that hyperbolic democrats in 2006 throwing the word around devalued it. Like the boy who cried wolf, now the wolf is at the door and nobody takes those cries seriously.
