Happy Mutt Monday, y'all! My boys have been enjoying walks and barking at every passer by outside of our house last week!

I love all of this so much.

Community college professors are amazing. They are there to care. Not that universities don't, there is just more of a sense of community there.

I am very much the same way. My hub's is the "I work around my appointment" type of guy. I have no idea how he does it. It's also a bit harder when you are a teacher to take a partial day to find a sub and leave lesson plans so usually during the school year, I didn't take appt days!

Okay, first, don't sell yourself short! You are a great conversationalist! Secondly, that's pretty baller! I, too, have cried at the loss of a character. They were an extension of me and I loved them. Libraries are such cool community resources!

I love that! What community college, if you don't mind me asking? My father-in-law is the vice president of a cc.

But I do have a clause that says don't judge me if you don't like it, but please tell me that you didn't and why so that I can log that information. It really helps with future recs. It also helps me learn about other books that people are interested in so I am able to recommend even more books to

I tend to ask a lot of questions like what are your top few favorite books and tv shows? Are you interested in anything specific genre wise? Are you interested in a certain subject, person, or time period? And who are your favorite authors right now? And then I give a rec and WHY they may love it.

I am literally the epitome of that. Like my whole day revolves around that scheduled time. And I can't schedule anything after because what if it takes too long?

I am famous for taking on the naughties. They are my absolute favorite (and usually go hand in hand with my LD students). I love having a little "spice" in my room lol. There is always room for a laugh or a bit of inappropriate middle school behavior from the kids (and sometimes me!).

Every book is not for everybody! But yeah, I try and read books others are interested in so that I can discuss them!

This makes a bit of sense. I am an early person. I'd rather be 15 minutes early than 5 minutes late.

I play D&D online with people all around the world. I used to run the D&D Club at the middle school I taught at, too. Yeah, it's hard out there. Our stores have bigger authors come by, and sometimes they stop at the library, but yeah, getting big names is paying big prices.

Wow! Damn that is so impressive! Congratulations! We have been together for 12 years, married for almost 4.

I haven't read the series... Yet! It is on my TBR pile because a former student wants to discuss it :). I also have an anxiety disorder with ADHD... So that is fun lol.

Cool! I will look into it! I read a little of everything so that I have good recs for my students, so reading things not "typical" or mainstream is perfect!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Yes! I was a middle school social studies educator and I work best with kids with learning disabilities (I have ADHD). I loved my SPED and 504 kiddos. I am kind of the expert with them. The stats for immersion reading are exponential for all, but especially for LD students!

Okay, that is pretty damn cool! Yes an interstate library loan is what I was thinking! Does your library also have programs for the community? Mine does and they are pretty good! We had a Holocaust lecture in the spring, they have adult Mario Kart racing competitions, and cool stuff for kids!

I do this sometimes too. I love recommending, but really listening to someone be passionate about their book is so interesting! I try to engage with what they are saying instead of blurting out a book that made me think about a topic they are discussing or a way that the book made them feel!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
This is why your memory of books is a struggle! You have two stories going on at once! The book version and your sleep version! Lol

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Haha! Now that is a nightmare!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Yes, I have left the light on only to wake up and be disappointed that my room is bright lol

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Haha that is hilarious! I have not dropped a book on my face because I have been falling asleep... BUT I have while completely awake 😂. I, too, have fallen asleep while reading and had weird book dreams.

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Thanks! I really enjoy it. It not only is a safe place to discuss books and thoughts, but it helps with my comprehension! That's cool! I hope you connect with them on reading! Have you picked out a book?

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
Is your library not connected to a system where patrons can request a book? Or were you saying there isn't much in your physical library?
100
Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
You work in a library?! Hell yeah! That's awesome. I prefer to be immersed-reading a physical book while listening to the audio, but I do sometimes read electronic books. I ARC read and electronically is usually the only way to consume them. The backlighting is a nice feature!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I think you're right. There is always a twist or different character development or world-building that an author can create to put their own spin on something. I haven't even heard of Xanth! Can you share any information about them?
100
Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I love immersion reading! It helps me focus and I don't tend to hyper focus on how a word is pronounced. I learned to do that in college (I wish someone would have taught me sooner because ADHD is a bitch sometimes).
100
Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I like the discussions and people helping me look at the book from different perspectives. It makes the book a bit more memorable for me. I'm sorry that you had that experience in high school :/. That is a sure way to steer kids away from loving reading!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 03/10/2026
I recommend it! Lol that is too funny! How long have you been married?

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
Oh the lateral thinking! I, too, go on wild rides of this lol. Sometimes getting lost in dense woods is where you are meant to be!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
I appreciate all of these recs! I added your recs to my TBR list. Like I said, I am a super slow reader as well, so my recs are usually ones I just read or I connected on another level!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 02/10/2026
All of the above. I love reading just straight up history, but sometimes I need a little fiction sprinkled in! I haven't read much alternate/alternative fiction. If you have some, let me know!
100
Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
This sounds awesome! I am starting to investigate cozy books, so if you have any that you recommend, let me know! I'm always looking for books :).
100
Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yes! For sure! I am honestly just impressed that someone has had an idea and written a book. I couldn't do it. I don't feel like I have any original ideas! I just love reading what is out there.
100
Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
We usually try to read it together chapter by chapter so that we can discuss things and speculate wildly! Otherwise, my memory would just go haywire and be like "I read this?" Or "Have we read the same book?" It really does help with comprehension as well.
100
Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Yes he really is! I read his memoir- Still Just a Geek and it was so freaking good. It's probably one of the few memoirs I would actually reread! My partner is a fun guy. Part of the reason I married him :).

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I am also a slow reader. I have a very analytical brain, so I am really sitting and soaking up information. Plus, I just can't comprehend at fast paces! That's crazy they can read that much so quickly!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
What are some reads that you have really enjoyed?
100
Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I am on a dystopian kick right now, but I really enjoy fantasy- Bloodsworn Trilogy is probably my absolute favorite. I read quite a bit of non-fiction, specifically historical stuff (I majored as a history educator). I just want books with fantastic world building and character development!

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Nice! Yea, I am probably going to dive into Dungeon Crawler Carl soon. I play D&D on Mondays and I'm thankful I do not need to know much lol. I just read my first cozy romantasy ever before I started Light Bringer. I would say that it was okay. Not really out of this world, you know?

That's a shame that you and your wife don't read the same books. We have some really great discussions. We take turns picking the books we read together.

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
I love horror! I've recently started to get into speculative fiction because of Wil Wheaton's podcast It's Storytime with Wil Wheaton. Yes that is my husband in the foreground.

Samantha Siciliano @sochillsam.bsky.social · 01/10/2026
Haha! This is how I think about books like this! I actually read a lot of different genres. My husband pulled me into the Red Rising series because he wanted someone to discuss the books with him lol. I think I am on a dystopian kick right now. What genres do you tend to read?
