Effective immediately, the PGC is no longer accepting new NSF-supported requests due to a lack of renewal funding. Current work is wrapping up. Please contact your NSF program officer if impacted. We’re grateful to have supported your polar research. Read our full statement at www.pgc.umn.edu

New weather station data now released on the GEUS Dataverse: doi.org/10.22008/FK2... We update this monthly with the newest data from our network of >40 weather stations across the Greenland Ice Sheet. See thredds.geus.dk for our near-real-time data (station-to-user within 15 minutes)

🔹 Glaciers cover 53% of Svalbard 🔹 Between 1936-2010, mean ice thickness dropped 26 m: 0.35m/year or nearly 8 Gt annually⏳ 🔹 By 2100, Svalbard glaciers are predicted to thin 2-4x faster 🚨 #Glaciology #Svalbard

I should probably re-introduce myself here to new and old connections… - Hi my name is Penny and I am a data scientist at the Geological Survey of Denmark and Greenland 🇬🇱 🇩🇰 - I have a Ph.D. in glaciology but have moved away from academia a little with my data scientist role ❄️
Penny in Iceland last week. She is taking a selfie on Sólheimajökull, wearing a helmet, sunglasses, and gear for being on a glacier and learning some rescue training. It is very sunny and warm, so smiles all round!

The DroneLab@UiO was tasked to make a safe system to demo the concept of measurement in vertical profiles to students. To stay flying in the A1 category (which allows flying close to people), and making the operations super easy, we modified a @djiglobal.bsky.social Neo with a <40g backpack!

Giving BlueSky a go as I have felt a bit unconnected from the glaciology/cryosphere research community for some time now. How are others finding it? I want to find my people again!
