Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 9hThank you! I always struggle with pole placement but I'm praying they're in decent places for this one. 010
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 06/10/2026We're only going to improve by doing the thing. So stir them beans! 0140
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Oh and here's all the logic so far for the modifier at the moment. 030
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 03/10/2026I'm not sure why but I think she would have strong opinions about The Phantom Menace. 2566
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Someone critiqued my last demo, so i took it to heart and tried to animate the snake better lol. 110
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 03/10/2026The modifier so far. It's not using any volume constraints and instead relying on pressure. 130
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 03/10/2026It is actually quite aggressive when viewed from the viewport. 2120
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 03/10/2026Physics effect is a bit subtle. Probably not worth it for general animation. 919232
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 01/10/2026Still looking into. For general stretching & wrinkles the base Cloth Dynamics geo node is good enough. For squishing I'm running into issues as XPBD doesn't have a constraint to maintain volume and I don't have a good solution for this yet with geo nodes. 0283
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 29/09/2026Testing with animation of the body. Internal pressure still isn't right. 35711
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 29/09/2026From my basic understanding so far, the XPBD Solver just takes constraints and applies them to each vertex. Like forces, edge length limits, etc. So we might even be able to just extend the existing cloth dynamics node with what we need. 050
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 29/09/2026To be transparent, the heavy lifting is done by the "Cloth Dynamics" geometry node (Blender 5.2). Now, inside Cloth Dynamics is the XPBD Solver node. I think if you can understand this then you can solve everything... developer.blender.org/docs/feature...developer.blender.orgXPBD Solver - Blender Developer Documentation 2338
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 29/09/2026This is using the new Blender 5.2 Cloth Dynamics. It's like the old cloth physics but because it's Geometry Nodes I have far more control. I can dynamically control lots of things, apply forces, etc. 080
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 28/09/2026I don't want to oversell this. I'm still very early into experimentation, and this could still fail... But I think this might be it... 7311
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Excluding this funny glitch. I do already have the results I want but I'm not ready to share just yet... 080
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Also this isn't using the cloth physics I demo'd yesterday... this using something a bit more modern. *cough* 5.2 *cough* 020
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 28/09/2026Maybe not so soon... The weight loss is going well though. 99210
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 28/09/2026[behind the scenes] I love trying to do things "in-camera" in Blender. You can fake similar effects in other software, but having everything exist as real 3D geometry makes some effects possible naturally. 1539
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 28/09/2026A few people asked so here's a download link for the coil_spin.blend project file. Feel free to modify, reupload or use for what ever you like. 070

Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The reason for using a secondary hidden mesh is so it can be lower poly and only effect the parts of the mesh we want. 050
Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 27/09/2026The main mesh has a surface deform modifier in its stack to deform with the hidden cloth mesh. Eventually I'd like to tune this to be a subtle deformation effect and combine it with the wrinkle map and other effects. 150

Snek3D @snek3d.bsky.social · 17/09/2026Still very WIP, messing with the settings to get it "just right (tm)". 081
