I understand, but it's an uninformed, dangerous stance that spreads misinformation and actively discriminates against autistic people. The leap from there being more information and firsthand accounts online to thinking a majority of self diagnosing people having misdiagnosed is unfounded.

receive significant results from a test like the raads-r. I'd also agree that not everyone claiming to be autistic actually is. But I consider the number of imposters to likely be negligible, as there isn't really much of a motive to pretending to be autistic.

The presence of other neurological disorders, a lifetime of masking and burnout, or even the patient misinterpreting the intent of the questions and answering non-genuinely could skew the results of an autism test and result in misdiagnosis. But I would speculate that any autistic person should

in a lot of cases. Studies show that self diagnosis is often accurate, while it is also common for doctors to misdiagnose due to bias or misinformation. Our current setup is extremely flawed, and we deserve better. Also there needs to be more accurate representation in media.

It's mostly that there are lots of potential negative consequences to diagnosis for autism specifically, but there aren't any assistance programs or anything to incentivise formal diagnosis. Add in public access to the dsm-5, raads-r, and spectrum tests, and it's just easier to self diagnose

if you believe neurotypicals or anyone else would want to pretend to be autistic publicly. There is room on the spectrum for people who have experienced less difficulty with speech impediments, but they're either autistic or they're not, and that's for them or their doctor to decide.

In a literal sense, I still can't believe there's no partial reimbursement for college when you're diagnosed with a learning disability, and it's apparent that your performance was severely affected Like, it took me an extra 3.5 years of full time classes after the diagnosis to finish the degree
