Jon has heard from an MP from another party, who says they met a voter today who said they'd voted by post a few weeks back for Polanski - but the voter went to the polling station today to cancel that and vote for Labour instead. On Sky news just now. Unbelievable

Are there any polls for this at all? There were about 5 for Makerfield.

All of the above except municipal borough election (byelection was in Tooting when Sadiq resigned to run for mayor), but then being from Wales and having moved to Ireland, I've voted in the old AMS system of voting in the Senedd and proportional system in local and general elections using STV.

+2 but yet "she's more popular than her party"

Given their polling in 2024 was about 10-12%, it would be interesting to see the results based on voting intention now. A large part of their party are likely Tory or Labour switchers who would vote to Rejoin.

What's amazing is every time she's asked a hard question, she says "no no no no". You couldn't possibly ask the LOTO that. She's l just being given an easy ride by certain parts of the media, but now she has actual policies.

In this case it is true due to the ageing population and pensions will get close to 100% GDP of the working population.

- Abolish Natural England and EA - Cut Foreign Aid to 1bn annually (it's currently 9bn?) What did I miss? And the media are asking about the Iron Dome, inheritance tax (not announced) and Penny Mordaunt.

Jack Hanly @snakespan.bsky.social · 06/10/2026
The media rounds are giving her a mostly free pass on her new policy announcements. So far: - 47bn in cuts to public services (including removing 130k civil service jobs) - free childcare for over 100k - Iron Dome - keep triple lock - increase prison places - Cut DCMS by 1bn

She published an essay and her prescription was £47bn more cuts and abolishing more institutions.

Agree, I also wonder how their second wave of austerity through £47bn further cuts to public service will undermine their childcare pledge, given the workers in these places may have in work benefits. epi.org.uk/publications...

I wonder how many of those Lib Dem seats want free childcare with income over 100k though. And how many would be alienated by ECHR and abolishing Natural England

Happens in Ireland that way. Uisce Eireann responsible for both water and wastewater and, if anything, it holds up housing because a big central body is now responsible for connecting sewage lines to new developments, and they have limited capacity.

On some issues but not all. I'm seeing a definite shift in strategy from Burnham to gain back the votes Starmer lost from the Greens and this Zionism is racism vote will only help them.

Who would she vote for out of interest? It seems like the right is quite fractured at the moment and they're either going more extreme in reform or less in Lib Dems

Jack Hanly @snakespan.bsky.social · 04/10/2026
Is that because of a lack of understanding on what the ECHR does for us though? Right circumstances might be they sail through election without it being brought up by the opposition on why it's bad.

Bit of a shame there's been no local polling on this byelection. I realise it's very difficult to get accurate representation but they had 5 for Makerfield

Think you are jumping the gun a bit. He said triple lock is changing from April 2030 and they haven't had a budget yet announcing any tax measures.

Disagree, every political party has said it's unsustainable. Government has to be able to make hard choices. Look up Badenoch last year saying she wants it under review, and Tice saying they'll change it. As soon as Burnham announces a modest change to redirect money to social care he's under attack

It makes more sense in the non celebrity one because the prizes in the challenges make a material difference to their lives and it makes them ruthless in the game. Traitors is simple and a little half baked but honestly turns quite addictive.

They are the ones attacking Burnham for lack of welfare cuts, he's proposing to reduce by 15bn, and they want to cut housing benefits by £4bn, and make people homeless. They're all on record calling for triple lock to be changed.

I actually don't think he'll wait 3 years but he has to say he won't go early to stop being asked the question about going early. The problem with this is Labour's position in Wales and Scotland.
