BanG Dream! Yumemita (anime) No one gets in the way of Ritsu and her meats. The first show with an AI main character.

I think this is closer in tone to OG comedic BanG Dream, though it does slap you in the face with dramatic moments akin to AveMyGo. Some of it felt like retreads of those serious arcs, and while Viola was fun I wasn't sure if the show truly understand what they wanted to do with her. Despite that, the show is gorgeous and the characters are lovingly crafted, with great VO and outstanding songs. Easily one of the best CG shows ever made from a pure animation standpoint. I appreciate swinging the needle back to a more laid back, slice of life, direction. I do like serious Bandori a lot, but it would get stale if every band suddenly became more brooding.

Neagley (show) Not as good as Reacher, and I feel like that's cause they devoted too much time to the cult and other characters instead of Neagley herself. She got good character growth here and a ton of badass moments but Maria Sten ended up feeling a bit crowded out at times.

Reacher (show) Reacher is incredibly dumb and that's why it is one of the most fun shows to watch. It's just pulpy extreme action. Incredibly funny and satisfying. Is it high art? Hell no. But if you like action it's very entertaining. I expected this to be jingoistic bullshit but it isn't.

Botan Kamiina Fully Blossoms When Drunk (anime) I love this show so so so much. Everyone needs to see this.

Quickly shot up to one of my favorite anime of all time. Absolutely gorgeous and one of the breeziest pieces of media I've ever had the pleasure to see. The romance is beautiful, the voice acting is stellar, the music is effervescent and the pacing is superb. Really hard to beat contender for the best anime of 2026. Do you like romance? Slice of life? Quality? Watch this.

Trapped (Manhwa) Wow I read a lot of romance manhwa.

I gave this the ole college try but I couldn't get totally into it. I think this is an example of a relationship that's too toxic for me to even read about because one side is not particularly compelling 60 chapters in. I'm sure he gets better, the story has already shown hints of Yunsu's tragic past, but he's not as compelling as Chae-a. I think cat and mouse manhwa are interesting but I have trouble balancing that with yandere/obsessive romance. If it was devoid of romance or had less of the obsessive nature, maybe it would have been more for me.

Purple Hyacinth What I would give to have art skills even .0001% of what's displayed here.

I hope this comes off hiatus. The world crafted is so delicate and intricate with GREAT leads. I think it's really easy to make the enemies to lovers trope extremely toxic (and unappealing to me) and Purple Hyacinth sidesteps those with aplomb. The pacing is very deliberate which makes the story always feel like it's in motion, but not at the expense of letting the characters and the setting breathe. Beautiful art and writing.

Chasing Tails Spoilers in the first image.

I so desperately wanted this to be better. I think it has a ton of interesting elements to it, and I think the ending being unsatisfying is, in itself, a very good ending. But, despite the fact there were psychologists consulting on this, I have a hard hard hard time liking stories where the killers are severely psychologically impaired. Even if it's because it was a messed up situation they found themselves in, spinning that into, essentially, killing and manipulating for sport from a fake mental illness is too much.

Surviving Romance This is a totally serious, normal, romance series.

Fascinating metafiction that really likes to play with genres and tropes in a way that feels clever without being too complicated for complexity's sake. It blends the lines between genres so well and becomes simultaneously funny, heartfelt, terrifying, and intriguing. Funnily enough, it doesn't actually have that much romance. The twists are foreshadowed well enough but are also *creative* enough that I don't see them coming, so when the needle drops I go "wow I'm a fucking idiot this twist was referenced here and here and here with these little details."

Pyramid Game (Manhwa) Or a reverse funnel game. Don't turn that upside down stop

Every now and then I try one of these bullying series. Bullying is always a problem and as far as I know it can be a BIG problem in South Korea. But it always amuses me to what extent it persists. Maybe I got lucky from high school despite being a loser. Anyway despite some of the innate craziness and genre trappings this was a fun romp with an MC who wasn't always the most empathizable, and that's a compliment. Too many of these instances net you a lead who is either a secret psycho/sociopath, an action star, or the nicest person ever, and none are particularly interesting.

Jungle Juice (Manhwa) Hope you like bugs!

Absolutely rock solid shonen manhwa. Extremely in-depth about insects and manages to strike a balance between having gnarly bug designs with actually cool and sleek insect humans. The art is colorful with a downright good cast of characters, and just fun action. The shonen/action wheel doesn't need to be reinvented, but it manages to execute a good product without falling into some other popular action manhwa trappings, like a boring all powerful MC. I'd suppose this is closest in quality and characteristics to My Hero Academia, but there's enough here to make it unique and fun.

Fist of the North Star (CG anime)

I expected that this would be hot ass. I've seen a ton of CG anime so I have a higher tolerance to it than most, and it's not that it's just CG, but it has a ton of bad looking models a la Berserk 2016. To by utter surprise, the show is actually quite good. Make no mistake, the CG holds it back, but if the show had decent 2D animation it would be a generational anime. The pacing is perfect, the music is stellar, and I love the seiyuu. Probably one of the best seiyuu casts in the franchise pound for pound, only surpassed by the original series. Shunsuke Takeuchi, in particular, is a shockingly close second-best Kenshiro to Akira Kamiya's legendary performance.
