Larch is traditionally considered non-native in most of lowland Europe. We challenged this narrative by using paleoecological and genetic evidence to show that the species was present in the landscape through the Holocene, but the extant populations are indeed mostly imported doi.org/10.1002/ppp3...

Needle in a haystack: Holocene history of European larch in Central Europe revisited
Defining nativity of species is crucial for their management. However, this is a complex task, especially for species that have been used and spread by humans for a long time. We combined paleoecolog...

Plant lineages capable of clonal reproduction seem to diversify slower than their non-clonal counterparts. A seemingly simple result backed by labour-intensive compilation of plant clonality data across the world. Thank you, Sonia, for all the work. onlinelibrary.wiley.com/doi/10.1111/...

Comparative Analysis of Diversification Rates in Clonal and Non‐Clonal Flowering Plants
Using data from 16,465 angiosperm species across 2,997 genera, we classified genera as clonal, mixed, or non-clonal and estimated diversification using genus-level phylogeny with DR, MoM, and BAMM. C...

New PLoS Biol paper led by @cerezer.bsky.social & David Storch (CTS): across tetrapods, species richness patterns are mainly shaped by equilibrium dynamics modulated by environmental productivity, rather than by speciation rates or time for species accumulation. 🔗 journals.plos.org/plosbiology/...

Diversity patterns in terrestrial tetrapod clades are governed by equilibrium dynamics
Why do some groups contain far more species than others? By testing competing explanations across terrestrial vertebrates, this study shows that biodiversity patterns are most often shaped by long-ter...

‪New paper by David Storch, @graceridder.bsky.social & Jordan Okie in @cp-trendsecolevo.bsky.social applying the Equilibrium Theory of Biodiversity Dynamics to Cenozoic diversity. Temperate diversity likely below equilibrium; tropical diversity may be above it. 🔗 authors.elsevier.com/a/1m5jLcZ3X3...
