Ironically this was the rule that I used on online dating for listing my height, about which I was called out by my now-wife on our second date. I would not have gotten past her height filter!

But also, love too be told I am going to hell if I don't uncritically accept the unverifiable things I am being told by the proselytizer.

Amidst all the concern trolling about default and debts, I never once hear or see any of these bamas propose raising their own absurdly low taxes even one red cent.

I'm in NC and am the kind of guy who votes in mid-October usually, and I'm done voting for the foreseeable future if the Dems allow this to move forward. Imagine I am not alone.

They'll sadly vote at even higher rates and margins for Rs in 2028 despite this

Bloomberg also does a nice job of dispassionately explaining what is going on while not trolling me or obviously/directly kowtowing to fascism, I continue to support their efforts. They're a useful adjunct.

Oh I think it's defensible, I just think the bullpen is too underresourced to avoid the months-long implosions we've seen the last two years, and they're alarmingly close to not having any functional infielders. Floor is quite low.

Given trends in young male voting since August 2020, very possible this has shifted in the wrong direction.

From experience, the problem with this is that while you can get them to agree, they then ask you what a better news source is, and none exist.

Just a guy with double digit followers here but the answer to your question is quite clearly “yes”. Another cultural exchange that is bad for the left and good for the right is the downward spiral conventional Hollywood is on, at the expense of Netflix/twitch/social media slop

It turns out some people are angry about the real possibility of an anti-MMR vaccine US government. You can choose to also be angry about that, or be angry about people’s’ tone in expressing anger over that.

No arguments with your value judgment with respect to RFK’s influence. I just think medicine as a field will alleviate more suffering in the long run by remaining clearly opposed to the quackery.

I’d much rather our professions are clear eyed about the stakes here, so that if the worst happens we may have an opportunity to regain some trust. Your points about institutional public health not communicating nuance well with COVID* were very valid. There is…. less nuance about the MMR vaccine.

It’s very possible we get outbreaks of morbid preventable illness (I’m especially worried about measles) due to this nomination. If that happens, and prior to that happening we increasingly indulge RFK’s mishegas, we’ll lose a lot of credibility (which we’ll deserve to lose).

Entirely aligned with you on the approach to individual patients. I don’t know that I buy the wisdom of the “join with Sauron” with respect to healthcare professionals responding to RFK’s likely ascent to HHS. I’m unsure it will result in harm reduction.

Sam Rubinstein @smrubinstein.bsky.social · 02/01/2025
Respectfully, this seems a bit confused. You still encourage a patient who is an active smoker with COPD to quit smoking when they’re in your office. Nonjudgmentally of course, and you don’t dwell on it, but you do it. This is no different.

This way, when the people who believe bad and costly things implement harmful policies that hurt people (which they will do whether they are given olive branches, or not), you gain some credibility with voters who don’t like to see people hurt, and then good policy can maybe happen again.

Sam Rubinstein @smrubinstein.bsky.social · 02/01/2025
Alternatively, it may be useful for politicians and politics professionals to actually believe things, especially substantively good and correct ones (like MMR vaccinations are good), and take clear positions rooted in those things (such as, “I’m not going to help the anti-MMR vaccine HHS nominee)

Well then, with respect to these negotiations, I look forward to them definitely acting in a way that indicates they are willing to make a contribution to American interests, as they consistently have done in analogous situations under Bibi

It wasn’t using the iron dome in February 2022, however, and plenty of other allies who are less dependent on the US for defense than Israel is managed to chip in at the time.
100
Sam Rubinstein @smrubinstein.bsky.social · 30/12/2024
Right but one could argue that some deference to US interests should be owed. Instead they act as if they expect unconditional aid in perpetuity (which no ally gets) and do stuff like this when we need their help theintercept.com/2022/03/23/u...

Why Israel Refused to Help Ukraine Defend Itself From Russian Missiles
Israel refused to sell its Iron Dome missile defense system to Ukraine and blocked the U.S. from sending Iron Dome batteries owned by the U.S. Army to Kyiv.

What I am saying is that the Israeli government’s public posturing towards the US is revealing with respect to how they view their relationship with us.

Sam Rubinstein @smrubinstein.bsky.social · 30/12/2024
I’m not making that comparison. It’s possible for both Americans and Israelis to love Trump.

On the contrary, they elect Bibi in perpetuity and he acts as if we are his vassal at essentially every public opportunity. That reflects some real sentiment.

Sam Rubinstein @smrubinstein.bsky.social · 30/12/2024
I put much more stock in this kind of thing than a single outlier poll conducted early in a war, prior to any opportunities for tension to open up between the US and Israel.

Despite this, 18/29 other orgs have inked a guaranteed contract with a player in excess of the JHey deal, and 25/29 other orgs have entered the postseason after a full season more recently than the Cubs. They either are bad at business, bad at the baseball stuff, or a little of both
