16/1 is a ridiculous price (worth a few quid!) but unless the person who told you that has detailed insight of both campaigns I’d doubt their analysis.

An alternative take is that he’s simply throwing ideas out there to get people talking. This one is hardly a vote loser or vote winner - it’s just something he’s thought about. The fact it’s getting so much airplay suggests “job done”

The split was always around 60-40 within the party, even at peak-Corbyn. NEC results tended to bear that out.

It's the 45th anniversary of the release of Penthouse and Pavement by Heaven 17. (We Don't Need That) Fascist Groove Thang is as relevant in 2026 as it was in 1981. Sadly.

Not to treat the issue lightly, but imagine the consternation if the government were to tell the good people of Piddington that - given such an overwhelming mandate - they’re now independent.

£11 at Wembley in 1984 to see Bob Dylan (with Eric Clapton, Van Morrison and Christie Hyde as guests and Steve Winwood and Mick Taylor in his band) Santana, UB40, and Nick Lowe were the support acts. Rolling Stone voted it one of the Zim’s top 5 gigs!

Your regular reminder: If the Russians stop fighting, the war ends. If the Ukrainians stop fighting, their land will be occupied, their leaders will be killed, their history and language will be erased, their children will be kidnapped to serve Russia.

Because the design of the system means that it’s easy for the increase in State Pension to be far higher than the prevailing rate of inflation almost every year.

96% of cars in London are ULEZ compliant. Over 85% of cars in the UK meet the ULEZ standard. I wonder how many people outside London who no longer drive in to the area because of ULEZ don’t realise their car is actually compliant?

That’s incredibly prescriptive and bears little relation to how people actually decide to vote. Standing on a doorstep telling a Tory voter they have to “own” their decision is what Momentum did in 2017 and 2019!🙄

Mark Smith @smithy0364.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
So why did so many left wingers who hated Blair and what he stood for vote Labour in 2001 and 2005? Why did do many moderate “one nation” Tories vote each time for Margaret Thatcher? All parties and their voter-bases are coalitions - saying they all agree with a certain agenda really is nonsense.
100
Mark Smith @smithy0364.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
I disagree. There are many reasons for voting for a certain party. It’s true, some may embrace the whole agenda, but for others it’s a belief that a particular party best reflects their outlook or is the best party to deliver the sort of country and society they want to live in.

Mark Smith @smithy0364.bsky.social · 26/08/2026
That assumes all 22% of that CON vote support everything they are proposing. I don’t think that’s the case. Not every Labour voter between 2015 and 2019 went along with all the nonsense Corbyn was peddling.
