When I installed mine, after lining it up it wouldn’t go all the way in. It needed a fairly hard whack to get it in, which did work. But uh… YMMV on that. 😬

Reading ‘A City on Mars’ and came to this excellent heading on space as a commons. Made me chuckle. Nice work @zachweinersmith.bsky.social and @weinersmith.bsky.social!

Australia are doing limited edition Bluey notes, adding yet another data point in support of @davekellett.bsky.social’s classic comic
4 panel comic. First three panels show illustrations of currency from Japan, the USA, and the UK, each with serious people’s faces.
Panel 1: By its very nature printed money needs to look serious.
Panel 2: A somber look. A somber feel, somber theme, and somber presentation…. All of that reinforces the “seriousness” of a country’s money system.
Panel 3: But not every country chooses that path.
The final panel is of a mock Australian note, with a multicoloured layout and a moustachioed man grinning. The note reads “Five Australia fun bucks! Good for one Fosters”
Panel 4 caption: … We’re looking at you Australia!

If you see this, post an image you saved because it made you laugh.
6 panel comic of two dogs on a date.
Dog Waiter: May I offer you a select room of beverages? Dog 1: Sure.
Dog waiter: We specialise in fine bowl water, but if that’s not to your liking we also have the hose.
Dog 1 lights up at the suggestion of the hose. Then squints, thinking to himself: No. I gotta act sophisticated to impress her.
Dog 1: Bowl… Dog 2 interrupting: Hose sounds great!
Shows a feminine looking dog sitting opposite dog 1, with surrounded by a glow and the words “The One”.
Final panel: Both dogs excitedly knocking the table over and jumping to get at a stream of water from the hose.

Meme of Peter Griffin from Family Guy being held up against a set of skin colour swatches. The whiter tones read: “Has a right to defend themselves.” The darker tones read: “Must not respond to this provocation.”

Mine was Zeliard, an old Sierra platform et/adventure game. I played it to death when my Dad brought our family’s first computer home in the late 80s/early 90s.

Age yourself with a movie you saw in the theater as a kid For years I thought of Dave Dobbyn’s Slice of Heaven as ‘The Footrot Flats Song’ but had no idea why. One day I asked my Dad and he laughed. It was played over the closing credits and the whole family had been to see it when I was very small

In Aotearoa New Zealand we have a similar phenomenon but rather less poetically described.
A realistic circular calendar of seasons for New Zealand:
January to March: Summer
March to May: Autumn
June to August: Winter
August: Spring 1
September to December: Shitsville
December to January: Spring 2

I was alerted to a good thread on the bad place by Adam Johnson about this. Basically that this time before an election is the only opportunity the left has to pressure Biden to do anything on anything - can't ask people to give that up without a fight
Part 1 of 3 of a screenshot of a Twitter thread by Adam Johnson. Reads - My contribution to the “we still have to vote for Biden discourse” is this: I think the popular debate suffers from a flawed premise that this is some abstract trolly problem without political context. That Trump “would be worse” is a reasonable position in the abstract ofc but it’s secondary to the CONTEXT of the debate which everyone keeps avoiding but I think it’s the far more interesting and urgent question. What function does the specter of massive vote withholding have? 6 months before the election in question, media influencers and progressive politicians pledging their partisan fidelity serves no functional purpose other than undermining the SINGLE point of leverage powerless angry anti-genocide voters have, which is Team Biden’s fear of losing in November.Part 2 of 3 of a screenshot of a Twitter thread by Adam Johnson. Reads - It sucks that this is the one point of meaningful leverage they have, but it is, and it’s entirely due to Biden’s cold stubbornness and the cracking down on on meaningful dissent. There’s a game of chicken going on. The Biden camp is explicitly counting on progressive voters eventually falling in line. This dynamic, this wager, is EXACTLY why they keep sending arms and money to Israel. They are expressly blackmailing left voters, pitting vulnerable groups stateside with genocide victims overseas. This is their calculus and millions of voters intuitively know this. Meanwhile the moral incumbency is placed on some vague cohort of Arab/black/progressive voters. This is the CONTEXT of the discussion and rallying the troops at this point—six months before the actual decision needs to be made—reads to a lot of people as capitulation without a fight, as confirmation Biden’s strategy is working in real time.Part 3 of 3 of screenshot of Twitter thread by Adam Johnson. Reads - I too find this incredibly insensitive and vulgar. Without ANY CONCESSIONS, without a fight at all people of influence and power should not preemptively pledge their vote. Whats the rush? It’s six months from now? It’s a Hail Mary but why not try to unite to pressure Biden? Not because anyone wants to, or because it’s fun or makes people feel self righteous but because, and this can’t be stressed enough—IT’S ALL THERE IS. And it’s all there is because of Biden’s extremism and unwillingness to listen to overwhelming democratic voter consensus. I tried to articulate this in this piece from March. I think the abstract question of “is Trump worse than Biden” is not a question anyone has to sheepdog for this far out. It’s not clear to me what the moral utility of this is at this point.

Real “Professor Schwartzman” energy
Far Side comic by Gary Larson. Caption reads: “Donning his new canine decoder, Professor Schwartzman becomes the first human being on Earth to hear what barking dogs are actually saying.”
All of the barking dogs in the image are only saying “Hey! Hey! Hey!”
