what's this? have i absolutely lost my mind to create a physics model for simulated pen plotting that includes ink starvation for roller ball pens? corollary: why have i been so stressed this week
it's a purple on ecru abstract mathematical plot drawn with a ballpoint pen being starved of ink by being moved too quickly by a pen plotter -- simulated.

i'm working on the next two zines, nudes 2 and 3. sets of three seems to be a comfortable number for people to feel okay with the shipping costs. and i'd rather each parcel have multiple zines in it because that's less work per zine. anyway, more nudes on the way.

In addition to the three coffee zines and two skull zines, there's also the first volume of Experimental Landscapes, which has some really vibrant stuff in it.
The image shows a zine titled "Experimental Landscapes: Series One." The cover features abstract, line art-style plotter drawings that depict a surreal, experimental landscape with buildings, trees, and pathways, all created with continuous, flowing lines. The artwork has a sketch-like, organic feel. At the bottom of the cover, it credits "Plotter Art by Shae Puckett."The image shows two colourful, stylized illustrations of forest scenes in an open sketchbook.

The top illustration features a pathway winding through a dense forest with tall trees. The colour palette consists mainly of deep purples, vivid greens, and bright whites, creating a dramatic, almost mystical atmosphere. The trees are tall and slender with thick canopies, and the ground appears to be covered in foliage or shadows.

The bottom illustration portrays a brighter, more whimsical forest scene. The colour palette is dominated by lively greens, yellows, and blues, giving a vibrant, sunlit feel. The scene includes tall trees with varied leaves and swirling shapes in the sky, adding a dreamlike, energetic quality. The path winds similarly to the first image but feels more open and inviting due to the lighter colours and dynamic forms.

Both artworks have a bold, graphic style with high-contrast colours and flowing, organic lines.

coffee and skulls were the two sort of "niche" subject plots i made, so it was easy enough to collect them into reasonably complete sets. though admittedly i could put together a whole zine of b-sides for each, that's not worth my time (or yours). now there's the rest of the work.

Skulls vol 2 zine is now in my shop. Just in time for the holidays. ko-fi.com/s/bf029eb35a
printed copy of the skulls vol 2 zine, description posted previously The image shows a framed artwork featuring a realistic depiction of a human skull. The skull is rendered in shades of brown and gold, with detailed textures that highlight its contours and structure. The background is dark, creating a strong contrast that emphasizes the skull's features. The artwork is matted with a white border and enclosed in a simple, gold-coloured frame, giving it a clean and elegant presentation. (Frame not include with Zine, just an example)

it's the cover of my zine Skulls Volume 2! have to finalize the preface text then print a sample.
The cover of a book titled "Skulls: Volume Two," featuring plotter art by Shae Puckett. The artwork is a detailed, intricate line drawing creating a stylized skull using densely packed, swirling, and wavy patterns. The lines vary in direction and density, contributing to the texture and depth of the image. The title and artist's name are presented in a clean, simple font within a white rectangular box centered near the bottom of the cover, contrasting with the complex background. The overall aesthetic is monochromatic, utilizing black lines on a white background.

i think i have enough in the archives to make a second skulls zine without dredging up b-side quality plots. so that's what i'm working on today.
The photo is a black-and-white framed artwork depicting a coffee cup with dynamic splashes of coffee dramatically bursting out of it. The coffee appears to be mid-pour, with the liquid captured in motion, creating an energetic, lively effect. Surrounding the cup are scattered coffee beans, adding texture and depth to the composition. The cup sits on a saucer, and the entire scene is set against a plain background, emphasizing the contrast and details of the coffee splash. The white frame complements the monochromatic theme, giving it a clean, modern look.

I designed my zines so you could frame pages from them. Here's the SKULLS volume 1 zine, and one of the pages in it, framed. link in bio
The image shows the cover of a zine titled "Skulls Volume One." The cover features intricate, abstract line art that forms the outline of a skull. The detailed artwork resembles a complex maze or circuit pattern, giving the skull a unique, stylized appearance. At the bottom, a text box reads, "Plotter Art by Shae Puckett," indicating the artist who created the cover design. The image shows a framed artwork featuring a geometric depiction of a human skull. The skull is created using a pattern of small, triangular shapes arranged in a grid. The triangles vary in shading from light to dark, which collectively forms the image of the skull through contrast and negative space. The artwork is set within a light wooden frame with a white matting that provides a clean and minimalist presentation.

i've finally got envelopes and a decent supply of the special paper needed to print the zines -- thin matte photo paper -- so if you were waiting for a trigger to pull, this is it. all zines are 9 euro each, the first one has the shipping fee, then an another euro for each extra zine in the parcel

ok as a compromise, here's the first 12 of the 24 pages of the coffee volume 1 zine. these are printed on an epson 8550 photo printer on matte presentation paper right here, so the colours are bold and the detail is excessive.
A collage of 11 different artistic illustrations, all themed around coffee. Each piece showcases unique styles and abstract designs:
A stylized coffee cup with steam rising, rendered with wavy lines -- title page.
A text-heavy page titled "Coffee Where One..." possibly an article or story about coffee - artist notes.
A digital art piece featuring a coffee cup from above with a vibrant red and blue background.
A moody, monochrome image of a coffee cup with steam against a textured backdrop.
An abstract, distorted coffee cup created with layered lines and blurs.
A geometric design featuring a circular coffee element with interconnected dots and lines.
A spiky, radial burst pattern possibly representing an explosion of coffee energy.
A 3D-rendered effect of overlapping coffee cups creating depth.
Abstract coffee cup shape crafted with bold, fluid lines.
A neon-outlined coffee cup with a stylized steam design in red and white.
Sketch-like hands holding a cup, detailed with intricate linework.
Close-up of a textured coffee cup rim, emphasizing the material details.

The collection blends abstract art, digital design, and sketch techniques, all connected by the central coffee theme.

i guess this is a dumb question but -- before buying an art zine, do you want to see thumbnails of all the pages in it? would that help you decide? i mean obviously not high resolution, but definitely "oh look at all the pretty art" kind of thing.

all three coffee zines.
The image shows three art zines stacked slightly askew. The top print features a stylized black-and-white line art drawing of a steaming coffee cup with concentric, maze-like lines creating a hypnotic, textured effect. The title "Coffee" is centred below the artwork, labelled as "Volume One" with the description "Plotter Art by Shae Puckett." The two prints underneath display abstract, intricate line art designs, one with fluid, wave-like patterns, and the other with repeated coffee-related motifs, such as cups and mugs. The zines rest on a lightly textured, white background.

i'm pleased with how the ink simulation is working out. these svg-based renders in the third coffee volume are so close to the original ballpoint-based plots on off-white paper i'm shaking my head. i'm really trying to make these zines worth having as art books.

wrapping up the design of Coffee Vol 2 zine. Here's the front cover!
The image is a cover page for an art collection or book titled "Coffee, Volume Two." The artwork consists of intricate, abstract line patterns that create a fluid, almost hypnotic design, reminiscent of liquid motion or swirling coffee. The lines are black and generated by a plotter, giving a dynamic and organic feel. At the bottom of the page, there's a text box with the title and subtitle, "Plotter Art by Shea Puckett"

second zine is done, experimental landscapes 1. i don't expect or even suggest anyone to buy zines until i have a few more listed because shipping costs are so high, it hardly makes sense to order just one. that's just the facts.
The image shows a zine titled "Experimental Landscapes: Series One." The cover features abstract, linear artwork resembling a landscape with buildings, trees, and flowing shapes. The drawing style appears to be minimalistic and experimental, using continuous lines to form the design. Below the title, it states "Plotter Art by Shea Puckett," indicating that the artwork was created using a plotter, which is a type of drawing machine. The cover has a clean, modern aesthetic with a monochromatic colour scheme.

having finished the "deconstructed nudes 1" zine i am now working on "experimental landscapes 1" so this is a lot of what i am staring at; very careful recreations of plotter prints. i'm using scans of the real plots as colour references, the zines are made from the original svg files.

I saw these plastic vase filler cubes and thought: i could make something with those. So i bought two packsvand made a Soma cube puzzle, adhering the pieces with transparent uv curable glue. Then printed a little stand with uncoloured filament.
The image shows a transparent, cube-shaped object resembling a Rubik's Cube, but without any coloured stickers. The cube appears to be made of clear plastic, showcasing raised square sections on each face. It is mounted on a circular, translucent stand, which is 3D-printed.The image shows seven clear, glass-like geometric puzzle pieces arranged on a black, textured surface. The pieces resemble Tetris-like shapes, each made up of smaller cube segments fused together. The transparent material of the shapes casts subtle reflections and shadows, enhancing their three-dimensional appearance against the dark background.

i don't expect anyone's noticed but i've adjusted the halo clock's "feels like" temperature equations to reflect canada's humidex and wind chill calculations, and done some smooth interpolation between them when necessary to prevent discontinuities.

i've got the plotter simulator pre-processor just about done. to portray ink you have to handle overlapping lines; they must be darker at the crossings. you even have to handle lines that overlap themselves, which requires a whole other level of geometric trickery.
close detail of an abstract geometric design, showing how grey lines overlap to produce darker grey and even black tones.

some work on simulated plotter prints with one of my designs from 2023. the ink blending and sharp line edges are working well.
This image features a vivid, abstract design with bold, overlapping, and intertwined lines. The dominant colours are red, yellow, and blue, creating a high-contrast effect. The red lines form swirling, organic patterns resembling topographic map contours, while the yellow background enhances the visual intensity. There are areas of deep blue and green adding dynamic contrast. The image showcases a vibrant, abstract artwork featuring large, colourful flowers. The flowers are primarily shades of pink, red, yellow, and white with intricate, wavy contour lines outlining and shading the petals, giving a topographical map-like effect. The background blends deep blues, purples, and greens, adding depth and contrast. The petals have a layered, almost three-dimensional appearance due to the detailed line work. At the bottom, there's a handwritten note in blue ink that reads "Q 70%."

still working on creating the best plotter art simulations i know how. it's not that i can't run a plotter anymore, there's one sitting right here. it's that it would be nice to offer prints and zines that look nice at prices that don't make most people go "uh no" in this economy
This image features a symmetrical, abstract pattern with smooth, flowing curves and gradient shades of blue. The design resembles a series of overlapping, wave-like forms creating a central vertical symmetry. The gradient transitions from a darker blue along the edges to a lighter blue towards the centre. Fine, evenly spaced contour lines enhance the three-dimensional illusion, giving the image a dynamic, almost fluid appearance.

Halo Clock #pride flag of the day: asexuality This one is an analogue theme with the purple hand the hours, the bright white hand minutes, and a very wide dim grey "gap" band as the seconds -- the centre of the gap indicates the hand position.
The photo shows a circular, black object mounted on a vertically lined, light-coloured wall. The object is evenly backlit with a soft halo of light, displaying shades of white with a hint of purple near the top left. A white cable extends downward from the bottom of the circle, suggesting it may be an electronic device. The overall appearance is minimalistic and modern.

current theme collection on the prototype halo clock v2, as viewed from the theme editor served by the clock itself
The image shows a "Theme Collection" interface with various theme options displayed as rectangular buttons. Each theme button has a name in uppercase letters, such as "ANALOGUE," "KALEIDO," "FLAG," "MARTIAN," "SUN & MOON," "WEATHER," "EPHEMERIS," and "RISE & SET." Each theme has a distinct colour palette represented by coloured bars beneath the theme name. There are multiple variations of some themes, like "ANALOGUE" and "FLAG," each showing different colour combinations.

At the bottom of the interface, there are two additional buttons: "DELETE CURRENT THEME" and "ADD NEW THEME." The "KALEIDO" theme near the bottom right appears outlined, possibly indicating it is currently selected.

This photo features a circular black object, a HALO clock, mounted on a lightly textured white wall. Surrounding the black circle is a vibrant, multicoloured halo of light, creating a striking visual contrast. The light radiates in three distinct sections: pink at the upper left, yellow at the upper right, and blue at the bottom. The colours blend slightly where they meet, adding a gradient effect. A visible white cord extends from the bottom of the circle, suggesting it is powered electrically.
