I hate hospitals, but not because of traumatic experience or medical anxiety. because outpatient appointments are entirely reliant on you being able to hear your name being called 🙃

I have an arthritis flare up in my left hand so I can only type on a keyboard for about a minute at a time before everything gets too ouchy to continue. However, my thumbs are fine. This means I am currently writing two journal article reviews and a grant application on my phone. LIFE IS HELL 🫠

Please be seated for a tale of my proudest culinary innovation: Yesterday we had some bits in the fridge to use up so I was going to make fig and coconut yoghurt ice cream mix for our Ninja Creamiᵀᴹ. My husband Llewe said, "no, you can't do that, there's already five full tubs in the freezer".

This experiment has had me saying things I never thought would pass my lips, such as, "hooray, a man!"

Some thoughts from today's Women and the Future of Science conference at the @royalsociety.org: - Pretty impressive to get this many exceptional scientists in one room, never mind that most of them are women - Questions from secondary school pupils were brilliant and incisive, the future is bright!

Everyone always says Sugababes are the Ship of Theseus but isn't it also just every sports team ever? (Brought to you by watching the Fulham game highlights for the first time in a while and recognising absolutely nobody)

in 2021 you'll read a cool paper by someone working at the All India Institute of Speech and Hearing and you'll think about contacting them to set up a collaboration; it's very important that you send that email

Tumblr post from every-lemon

so my spouse is part of a weirdly intense but mostly benign men's workout group that meets at like, 5:30am outside every day, even in winter. they do a lot of burpees and lugging cinder blocks up hills and stuff.
they take turns leading the workouts and tomorrow is his turn. I asked what he was planning. he handed me a sheet of William Carlos William poems from a large stack he'd printed.
I said "what" and he explained, helpfully, "it's a William Carlos William themed workout." I asked what inspired it and he said "l've been planning this for months."

it was a smash hit.
a dozen guys showed up (more than usual). spouse brought a red wheelbarrow and they took turns bringing cinder blocks up the hill with it. then they broke up in teams and did a relay with an "icebox" (cooler filled with 40lbs of ice). at the end he opened the cooler to reveal it was full of beach plum lacroix and all the guys cheered. they drank sparkling water as he read 'approach of winter' out loud.
he was home by 6:30am.

Been a wild 24hrs- kicked off Monday giving a talk at the Royal Society #FutureSciPub then headed home to miraculously pass my driving test?? Have spent a good chunk of the year so far so ill I couldn't travel and legally unable to drive for a bit so feeling v grateful for some glorious respite.
Three white people sitting on a stage (Bill Sutherland, Mark Walport, and Sophie Meekings) with a Royal Society branded lectern in one corner and a slide projected behind them entitled "The future of scientific publishing"Sophie beaming and holding a driving test pass certificate in front of a bright blue car with colourful dots all over it

Just spent a week taking kids caving in beautiful South Wales. Love to be on top of and/or underneath mountains. Just any orientation relative to a hillside really.
Sophie (a white brunette woman with long hair) squints at the camera with a beautiful landscape of mountains, woodland and a rainbow behind her. She's wearing bat earrings and a tan coloured woolly hat that matches both her jumper and the dead bracken in the landscape behind her.

The difference between last month's basket "full" of veg and this month's 🌱 hauls is *extreme* 😅
In contrast to the quoted skeet with a photo of a wicker basket containing a couple of courgettes and a handful of beans, this basket is positively overflowing with beans, gherkins and yellow courgettes piled on top of each other.
