Relevant every hiring cycle: Bill Walsh on the dynamic between owners, GMs and coaches. (And even if it’s not 100% the case, definitely truth in there.)

I don’t care if you’re Dr. Faustus, winning a national title at Indiana is just unbelievable. Obviously the world has changed, but Cignetti had a top-to-bottom plan (mostly laid out in his opening press conference) and executed it. Just wild.

Enjoyed talking to the @wsj.com about the state of strategy and tactics in college football (which are, in my view, in very different places now than what has been the case over the last 25 or so years). www.wsj.com/sports/footb...

College Football Has a Big Problem: It’s Run Out of Geniuses

For decades, college football coaches built entire new attacks seemingly every season. Suddenly, everything looks the same.

Crowdsourcing: Who are the best coaches (or potentially GMs) at building/rebuilding teams and programs? What are the throughlines (particularly the behind the scenes stuff), and any good resources/articles/interviews? Somewhat sports agnostic but focus on long term builds

I’m generally blown away by what some of the AI/LLMs can do, but then I ask it to create “Robot and Dinosaur themed” pre-K worksheets, and it gleefully tells me it has completed my requested task …

I kind of went full circle this draft cycle and I (on balance) like Shadeur more than Jaxson Dart (it’s a rough class, as we know) though I actually think Dart is a better fit for Daboll/Giants because of the athleticism.

It’s almost 11pm and there are still nine picks to go in the first round. By 2035 the first round of the NFL draft will be conducted over the course of 32 days with one pick per day

I sneaky really like the Raiders Pete Carroll hire - especially factoring in who else the Raiders could get. Not saying it’s a fast turnaround, but but he gives them a hard reset on culture throughout the building. And I’m a sucker for his approach, enthusiasm. youtu.be/NMLa6fM10KA?...

An underrated aspect of the Commanders run has been how the offense has controlled the ball and protected the defense - eg, they really never stopped TB, or at least Mayfield/Evans. But the turnovers then exposed the defense, and that was it. Honestly Daniels played mostly solidly on initial watch?

Gotta love Kingsbury busting out one of the most old school of old school Air Raid plays, Y-Corner (“8”), complete with the backside double slants and corner thrown off of shortened footwork. Here’s a clip of Jayden running it vs Detroit …

Hold up… so Louisville went for it vs Stanford on 4th and 10 from with 10 seconds left from Stanford’s 45 yard line, didn’t get it, then gave up a 1 yard pass but then committed unsportsmanlike and offsides penalties, and then gave up the game winning field goal as time expired? Whew
