Exactly. There will be no new normal. The weather will keep becoming more extreme until the world decarbonises. We might have the odd calmer year but the trend will be more extreme. So today’s UK weather is the least extreme we can ever expect. Time to finally WAKE UP.

The UK SRS that are coming into effect for the 2027 reporting standard will likely apply to large enterprises, which will be looking for SRS-compliant reporting from their supply chains. SRS S2 will make reporting on all GHG Protocol Scope 3 categories mandatory.

...because it assumes the carbon will remain intact as a carbon sink. But this is unknown. Timber can end up in landfill emitting gases, or end up in a product that is burnt. Carbon accounting must be based on known outcomes, not future predictions. And vested interests should NOT have influence.

Reporting of Scope 1 and 2 emissions should be mandatory for all corporations. And Scope 3 should be mandatory for large businesses. If a business isn't measuring its emissions, it can't claim to be working to reduce them.

They should do, yes. But that relies on accurate reporting of the land area and age of trees that burnt. In reality most land use emissions use national datasets of land use, without the detailed local knowledge you can add in when calculating smaller scales (like a UK Nat Park)
