I mean theres many ways it can be interpreted/depicted, my HC is that since in FS she uses it for her hobby and warnings to the unobservant (mostly kosuzu) the ability is more a library rather than always being active. Which is also why she doesnt usually come across as tragic as someone like mokou.

reading CoLA ch27 and reimu randomly just said something about akyuu that sums her up so well

"The reason why it feels like history repeats itself to youkai is purely because they aren't human. For humans the thread of memory vanishes after only a short while. So from the perspective of youkai humans - from the time they are born until they die - seem to just repeat the same things.
"Just like you, Mr. Rinnosuke," Reimu said smugly. The situation is usually reversed, so I was a bit frustrated.
"And this really, really smart human has the memories of all the books stored by her ancestors for generations. So she can see a world that neither humans with few memories nor youkai who have lived for a long time understand."

Writing a Touhou fic and thinking to myself: Man, it'd make complete sense while being mostly in character for Mamizou to show up here and very easy to push the plot where I need to go with her meddling and- OH GOD that's why ZUN keeps doing it

#Shiptember Day 13 [Touhou] Yukari/Reimu Just popping in to say hello, or getting ready to drag the shrine maiden into yet another incident? Who knows! #touhouproject #yukarei #ゆかれいむ

An illustration of Yukari Yakumo and Reimu Hakurei from the Touhou Project series. Yukari is popping out of a gap and grabbing Reimu's shoulder with a big smile on her face. Reimu, who is in the middle of sweeping the path leading up to the shrine, looks up at her with an exasperated expression.

Kinda wish Akyuu had some sort of younger alt design like Reimu's or Marisa's Pc-98 forms. I guess theres CoLA Akyuu but that ones not very different from current Akyuu.
