Trump complains about the non-existent Sharia Law that has apparently been imposed on London, then actually imposes Martial Law on US cities... how is this happening in the "Land of the Free"?

Excellent article, but... "So here’s my challenge to Reform’s DOGE team: spend a week doing what the rest of us do." No chance. They will just sit on the sidelines and lob unsubstantiated alegations as per usual. Sorry Bear, that's their only MO.

They somehow fall for the line that if you make the rich people richer, then the money will "trickle down" to the poor people. But the reality, as we all know: it doesn't. It just gets sucked up, and stays sucked. Social cuts always seems to beget tax breaks for the wealthy.

Newsom: Police should police—not the military. That’s what happens in third-world countries, and that’s exactly what Donald Trump is trying to impose on the American people: a mindset of militarization, power, dominance, and control—not the rule of law. This is a very, very serious moment.

England could face water shortages within a decade. Since 1989 population, homes increased - 25 reservoirs sold off, no new ones, no desalination plants, 1 trillion liters of water a year lost to leaks. Companies borrowed to pay dividends. No forward planning. Disaster made by privatisation.

Government fast-tracks new reservoirs to secure water supply
Changes to planning laws could speed up projects, but experts warn water consumption will also need limiting.

Bizarre, isn't it? She wants to know WHY they now rush out information on awful events such as this. The answer is of course to forestall the inevitable Hatred-Brewing that "some" people will otherwise rush to indulge themselves in, and thereby to minimise the risk of violent response.

Most of the people who talk of little but migration also deny climate change, which will create such vast numbers of migrants that the dinghy crossings will look like a tea party. Ironically it may take this surge to persuade those who refuse to read any climate science.

Ditto for Foreign Aid. It doesn't seem to occur to the same people that if you impoverish third world countries they will come looking for a safe place to live. Helping these poor people to improve their lives is the obvious way to encourage them to stay in the country of their birth. And yet...

Absolutely this. We don't "hold all the cards", and never did except in the fanatical and fantastical view of swivel-eyes loons such as Frost, Gove, Farage, Johnson and Braverman. Negotiation is a matter of give and take.

Starmer is so desperate to attract the AI TechBros to the UK that he is willing to sacrifice the creative industries on their altar. Music, film, writing and voice work, all expendable as far as he's concerned. His spine seems to be shrinking by the day.

I had to go to A&E and was looked after by some wonderful people, many were what Starmer calls “foreign labour”. I apologised and thanked them for all they do, but one Englishman got angry with a nurse bc she pronounced his name Hadrian, not Adrian. This is what Starmer has underscored.

Out of touch with the farming & food production - but maybe not with many of their voters, who also do not fully comprehend the vital nature of food production & many of whom resent farmers... "freeloaders", "rich landowners", "subsidy parasites" etc etc. It's not like that in France!

And still too many people think that food arrives in the supermarkets based entirely on money supply... the role of the UK farming industry is not appreciated. I hope they will find new and inventive ways to prepare their money for dinner!

In this, as so many other areas (Brexit, Trump, social care) Starmer's Labour seem to try to pander to everyone rather than taking a bold and steadfast decision that charts their own course. Shame.

Carole Youngs @smallholder.bsky.social · 11/05/2025
Sadly, in the (highly unlikely I fear) case that the care sector can recruit UK workers to do these jobs at a much higher rate of pay, the care companies will then raise the prices accordingly, placing a greater financial burden on both self-funded residents and the State.

Carole Youngs @smallholder.bsky.social · 09/05/2025
Absolutely this. Why are most of our politicians in denial at the obvious harm that this course of action has caused? Being politically scared of Farage and Reform is not an excuse. Bold action is needed.

"Last week, Trump acknowledged the potential impact of tariffs. American children might "have two dolls instead of 30 dolls" he said, but added that China would suffer more than the US." (BBC) So if the US cuts off one of its legs, Trump promises that China will cut off both of theirs?!? Demented.

At least there was an honesty in Mosely's British Union of Fascists - it did not hide behind a false flag... I am still hopeful that Britain has not yet fallen, but it will take some positive action from Starmer's government, who are currently playing right into Farage's nicotine stained hands...
