The very last DeSotos were sold in 1962-63 in South Africa, where the DeSoto name continued on rebadged versions of the ‘62 Dodge Dart 330 and ‘62-63 Lancer, which were sold as the DeSoto Diplomat and Rebel, respectively.

The Trooper was offered in some markets as the Honda Horizon and Acura SLX. But had the Isuzu V6. Same deal with the Passport. Know what GM umbrella SUV did come with a Honda 3.5L V6, though?

1969-70 300 convertible. Because fuselage Chrysler is best Chrysler. Also, I didn’t count Imperials because they were a separate marque for most of the period in which they were cool.

Whether it integrated the lock or not, AMC’s 1968-88 paddle-style doorhandle (used for longer on Wranglers) was clean, simple, elegant, and aerodynamic. It’s perfect.

And 2000/2000 Sunbird/Sunbird wagons, and Firenza Cruisers, and Skyhawk wagons, the latter of which you could get with retractable headlights. I think later versions of the Holden Camira were more closely related to the Isuzu Aska version of the J, as well.

I agree on the 2nd Generation Leone part. I especially love that Subaru (much like AMC with the Eagle line) said, “I don’t care if the marketing people don’t think we’ll sell any. Fuck it. Put AWD and a little lift on the cheap little 3-door hatch and the hardtop coupe, too. Maybe a turbo, too.”

If Chrysler had turned Eagle into a car-based CUV and 4x4 wagon brand and kept Jeep as the marque for capable off-road truck-based vehicles - including a small Jimny-like model - they’d be better off today. AMC proposed one back in 1977 called the “Jeep Concept II.” Shown at right next to a CJ5.

Remember when Bob Lutz said “It’s going to look like a fucking Bentley” when hyping this car before launch? Apparently he wasn’t a fan of the CTS’s styling and got designers to soften the lines. Anyway, delusions often run strong in these areas of companies. Ford is no different.

The AMC Pacer was in production from January 1975 to December 1979, about 8 months longer than the Confederacy existed.
