"Wonderful! A great new album!"
-Irene Trudel, WFMU (NY/NJ)

"Combining elements of dark ambient, drone, shoegaze, and post-rock, Bipolar Explorer are doing something wonderfully different. Last Lights is one of those remarkable albums (...) you'll be in audio paradise for a long time. Gorgeous!"
Rich Dodgin - This Is Darkness (Scotland)

"effortless and natural, bringing us a spanning and fuzzy picture of what we consider the most difficult thing for any of us to feel - a sense of belonging." Lars Haur, Fringes of Sound (US)

"Ample discord is present in a set that builds itself around Serafin- Wells's multiplicity of guitar textures. Like Windy & Carl at their gothiest - which is very welcome."
-Noel Gardner, The Wire Magazine (UK)

Last Lights

Slugg 2xCD/DL

Bipolar Explorer's Michael Serafin-Wells compares the New York shoegaze group's latest album to the wall-sized paintings of Gustave Courbet, and to his favoured Clash, Hüsker Dü and Minutemen double LPs. At 140 minutes, Last Lights is considerably longer than any of them (whether it's larger than a 20 foot canvas is a question of perspective, I suppose) and while scarcely sounding punky, ample discord is present in a set that builds itself around Serafin-Wells's multiplicity of guitar textures. "Across The Northern Winter Sky" sounds like Windy & Carl at their gothiest, which is very welcome. Valuable context also lies in the vocal contributions of Summer Serafin, who co-founded Bipolar Explorer and died in 2011; Serafin-Wells upholds her memory via these archived recordings.

Memories of the Sky, by Bipolar Explorer reviews:
BIPOLAR EXPLORER
Memories of the Sky
"Brilliant. Deep and dark and one of the best albums of the year. As soon as it finished playing, I wanted to play all of it again. A fantastic album."
-black_ops (UK)
"Another precious piece of this infinite picture that tells of a love that is forever alive and present. The enchantment of enveloping sounds, of atmospheres that warm the heart, of a deep nostalgia that leads to greater sensitivity is renewed. Seagulls singing, a face on the horizon and a hand shaking that of someone we don't want to leave."
- liberio Faedi, Silent Radio (Italy)

Memories of the Sky
"It's a silver lining in dark times like these, but anguish and the examination of one's self and our path through life tends to extract the finest creative impulses from the artistic community, and both artistic reflection and troubling trends around the world have
doubtless informed Bipolar Explorer's 12th album,
"Memories of the Sky" (their 5th double
album). It's a soundtrack to a mighty storm, where the passage of time brings increasing challenges, the pressure threatening to tear us from our very sense of self. Memories of the Sky might be our guidebook through this meandering path, as the journey is not always clear. Its chiming ambience brings us to places both desired and unbidden, the trio drawing back curtains on visions of delight and disenchantment. It is, quite simply, their crowning achievement, their finest work thus far. Five Stars. One of my Top Albums of the Year"

"An even more sonically expansive album, filled with ever more exploratory sonics, liminalism, lost and found, hauntology - it's kind of like dreampop futurism. May its unearthly glow permeate even the toughest of hearts. It will! You'll see. Bipolar Explorer, keep on exploring. You are much loved by this show"
- Max Reinhardt, Soho Radio (London)
"A gorgeous album! Lush tracks, soundscapes and songs. Really beautiful stuff."
-Irene Trudel, WFMU (New York)

“In The Hours”: reviews by Max Reinhardt (Soho Radio London/BBC3), Fog Songs (UK), Irene Trudel (WFMU, NYC-NJ), Carson Street (KFJC, California), A Closer Listen (UK), black_ops (UK), Un Certain Reverie (Portland, OR), Jeffrey Davison (CKUT, Montreal), Conducive (UK), White Light/White Heat (Italy)
REVIEWS:
"The new album I think somehow breaks new ground for holy sonic icons, Bipolar Explorer, because it feels and sounds like a whole, an unstoppable beating heart that's emanating fragile sonics and thoughts and words at the fringes of consciousness and subconsciousness, sleep and waking, dream and vision."
-Max Reinhardt, Soho Radio/BBC 3 (London)
"This is an album of nocturnal dreamscapes, filled with restless shadows and dim pulsating lights to guide you on your way. Embarking on this long, winding, hallucinatory sound journey is like entering a dark labyrinth of ghostly atmospheres, psychedelic meanderings and mysterious whispers...Bipolar Explorer are an experimental dream-pop band based in New York City, and this is their latest release - a sprawling 2-hour long double-disc album, which is a bold and ambitious move to make in the year 2023, but this band have done it well...'In The Hours Left Until Dawn' is a haunting and immersive listening experience.
Musically, it's an eabstract field recordings, swirling vocalizations, percussive instruments and trippy audio manipulation techniques to create these gorgeous shimmering soundscapes that both haunt and comfort...'In The Hours Left Until Dawn' is an album of pure atmosphere and feeling. It's an epic accomplishment, and a gorgeous work of art that contains pop sensibilities, trippy experimentations and everything in between. Ideal introspective listening for the long quiet hours of the night.
Highly recommended."
-Fog Songs (UK)
"An amazing album. Another new, beautiful soundscape from Bipolar Explorer! Two discs of wonderful, gorgeous, drifty music and strange, strange sounds. Utter dream sequences. I love it!
It's just a beautiful work!"
- Irene Trudel, WFMU (New York)
"In The Hours Left Until Dawn is moody, atmospheric and filled with the calm vibrations we all need now. The music bed underlies explorations of darkness and light, all the while leaving us "a breadcrumb trail of stars" to light our way."A sprawling suite of instrumentals, sung and spoken word. Loss permeates the music, gracing it with a tragic mystery."
- A Closer Listen (UK)
"A hallucinatory masterpiece. Grab this album."
- Black_Ops Radio (London)
"Beautiful, shimmering, hypnotic, dreamlike; always a sense of passage through unnameable dimensions; the haunt is palpable but as an enveloping wonder and at times I felt I was listening to stained glass..."
- Uncertain Reverie (Portland, OR)
"Just a gorgeous, gorgeous album. A lot of their music has a really strong spiritual undercurrent and maybe never more evident than on this new record, which is actually a 2-CD set."
- Jeffrey Davison, CKUT (Montreal)
"A dark, delightful sound journey, simultaneously haunting and comforting."
-Conducive (UK)
"Pick of the Week!"
- White Light/White Heat (Italy)
