Call me crazy but I actually think the job of the Senator from Massachusetts is to represent the perspectives and beliefs of the people of Massachusetts.
"Mr. Moulton urged Massachusetts Democrats to think beyond their state lines. He said the state should elect a senator who could appeal to the rest of the country to help the party build a governing majority in Washington.

He argued that it would not advance the progressive cause to have the Democratic Party branded as enthusiastically supportive of trans athletes in sports, when polls suggest that the American public believes differently."

Pretty sure this should be Andy Kim of NJ? There's no Senator Robert Kim of Hawaii
Mazie Hirono, (D-Hawaii)
Robert Kim, (D-Hawaii)

SEIU kept organizing to free Rümeysa for more than a month. We had a presence outside of every court hearing. And when Rümeysa was finally released, the first people she saw as she walked out of the jail was a contingent of her SEIU siblings who had waited all day in the rain to welcome her back. 5/

A statement from Rümeysa Öztürk's union stewards
The Tufts Grad Workers Union is overjoyed that after more than 40 days in detention, our beloved friend, colleague, and union sibling Rümeysa Öztürk has been released on bail and is returning home to Massachusetts. We want to share our sincere appreciation for all of our SEIU siblings and fellow workers around the world who have joined us in solidarity to demand Rümeysa’s release.

Our collective fight for justice does not end here. Thousands of workers throughout Massachusetts and around the country have been abducted by ICE in recent weeks. Not all of their names, faces, and stories have received the coverage Rümeysa has, but they are equally deserving of justice. We are proud to organize with a local that knows justice for workers means fighting back against the criminalization of immigrants, and we will not rest until every one of them is home safe.

COME FOR ONE, FACE US ALL!
FREE RÜMEYSA, FREE THEM ALL!

I would argue that the State Department basically admits this is about the op-ed in this document ACLU filed Friday www.aclum.org/sites/defaul...
(SBU) On March 21, 2025, in response to a request from DHS/ICE and the
assessment from DHS/ICE that Rumeysa OZTURK had been involved in
associations that "may undermine U.S. foreign policy by creating a hostile environment for Jewish students and indicating support for a designated terrorist organization" including co-authoring an op-ed that found common cause with an organization that was later temporarily banned from campus,

This is the Rümeysa I know
Two days after Öztürk’s transfer to Louisiana, E. received a call from a strange number that came up on her phone as “Prison/Jail.” It was Öztürk, in the first of what would become regular check-ins at random times of the day.

In interviews, E. showed ProPublica corroborating photos, text messages and voice notes of her interactions with her friend.

“She always starts with, ‘Is this a good time to talk?’ And I’m, like, ‘I’ve been waiting for this,’” E. said.

Some days, Öztürk sounds upbeat. Turkish diplomats, she told E., had delivered her a new hijab. Öztürk found a cookbook and noted a citrus salad recipe she might try someday. She cracked jokes about being too old to climb into a bunk bed every night.

In one call, Öztürk expressed relief that she’d filed her taxes before getting detained — a perfect example, E. said, of her overachieving friend’s wry sense of humor.

“She read the detainee handbook two times,” E. said. “She said, ‘I’m trying to be a good detainee.’”

Rümeysa shared this statement today through her legal team www.wgbh.org/news/local/2...
“I am a Ph.D. student working with children and youth. We know that injustice in the world and systemic brutality towards people of color has long-lasting negative effects on children, youth, and other communities. My life is committed to choosing peaceful and inclusive ways to meet the needs of children. I believe the world is a more beautiful and peaceful place when we listen to each other and allow different perspectives to be in the room. Writing is one of the most peaceful ways of addressing systemic inequality. Efforts to target me because of my op-ed in the Tufts Daily calling for the equal dignity and humanity of all people will not deter me from my commitment to advocate for the rights of youth and children.”

This is the Rümeysa Öztürk I am proud to call a colleague, a union sibling, and a friend. She should be back on campus with us. Free her now. as.tufts.edu/epcshd/news-...
Rumeysa’s presence on campus has been missed, as her genuineness and care for others have been felt deeply here at Tufts. Her fellow students put it best: “Rumeysa is usually the first to arrive on campus: she boils water in the kettle and is ready with a warm greeting. Today, she is still everywhere with us. She is in the Turkish tea that we brewed this morning; she is at the top of our inboxes, planning the pastries she would bring to our iftar tomorrow evening; she is on the wall with her byline in an article about refugee representation in children's television and in a colorful Istanbul postcard; she is in the red swivel chair that she always sits in. Even in a department focused on human development, Rumeysa stands out as someone who reminds us daily of the importance of protecting children, cultivating joy, and connecting to our own deeper humanity. We are not the same without her steady, gentle presence”.

There's a number of reasons I'm drawn to Barbara Ehrenreich as a writer and theorist of the American left, but one of them is definitely Physicist Class Solidarity
"Ehrenreich studied physics at Reed College, switched to chemistry, graduating in 1963. Her senior thesis was Electrochemical oscillations of the silicon anode. In 1968, she enrolled in a theoretical physics Ph.D, but changed early on to cellular immunology and received her Ph.D at Rockefeller University."

"I say this as someone who has been called a TERF, a contemptuous acronym that stands for Trans-Exclusionary Radical Feminist, more times than I can count."

Señora Presidenta, my people yearn for freedom.
"If even a small percentage of what the United States allocates to war were instead dedicated to building peace and fostering development, it would address the underlying causes of human mobility," she said.

Carine Hajjar what is your fucking problem
Carine Hajjar on Twitter: Fighting for women's sports doesn't mean you're transphobic. The left can't understand the distinction. Thanks to @Varneyco
