Does anyone have a good explanation for why I can’t just rock up to an EV recharging point, swipe my debit card / phone, and immediately start charging? The friction involved in charging an EV is insane. Every point requires a different app, which is buggy and forgets your details and / or crashes.

In the market square in Daint Antonin Noble Val for jazz and beer. Pleasantly cool in the shade. Roasting cycle over though…

But where does the money go? Asset prices falling assumes sales. I can see that for individual assets, but systemically? Bond yields are going up so not tradable, gold prices driven by CBs, cash hamstrung by inflation, BC total tulip. Where would it go?

Disaster! My coffee grinder has expired and I am having to use the decorative hand grinder. 5 minutes for a single espresso…

First cold morning of the season in the Gorges d’Aveyron…
Photo of a frosty field in the shade with hills in the sunshine behind. Mist in the trees in the middle. The mist is over a river, which is not visible in the photo.

A most odd cross. Apparently raised to ward off the Phylloxera in the late nineteenth century.

The old aqueduct at Negrepelisse…
Semi ruined two layer Roman aqueduct. Looks like a very miniature Pont du Gard.

Village fete, yesterday evening.
People sat at lines of tables in a bucolic wooded park setting. Food truck in the background.

The flowers are falling from our Japanese Pagoda tree. They must be still full of nectar as the bees are going inside them. They roll around, as if in the throes of passion!

@bellacycling.bsky.social great new videos! Bit of living vicariously for me as I had to abandon my cross Pyrenees adventure this May due to food poisoning. Ironically, at Lourdes! I know that station (and its ‘facilities’) well…

Information for heat pump skeptics: it’s -7 outside and we’re toasty inside. Only heating is our heat pump running a blower inside. The meter shows it’s using 2.2 kW. This is heating our downstairs, which is open-plan 14m x 6m, in an old uninsulated stone farmhouse…

Listening to Marquee Moon on the train back from Paris. Such a truly brilliant and beautiful album though wondering if the extravagant electric guitar might not be rather unfashionable these days.

Collecting flour to (finally) start a sourdough. This mill started in 1181! I wonder how many sourdoughs it has fed, and how old the oldest is.
