Yuyuwa ran as fast as her squat, little legs could carry her— past marble columns and fields full of freshly fallen snow and crowds of dock workers and on and on across the island. Her feet were bare, despite the cold and despite her tutor's protest, and her lengthy skirt hem was caked with frost and mud. A one track mind, no doubt, but it didn't matter.

The sun would be out soon enough, warm and full again. Her mother would come home to her at last.

THANK YOU... 🥹 that means sm to me!! seeing her develop and respond to her environment/relationships has been my favourite part of roleplaying her. i feel really lucky to have bo'ra be the catalyst for a lot of that journey too!! writing with you got me out of a creative rut and i'm really grateful.

"It's not a physical impairment," The speech therapist, who was really an uppity linguist that offered to aid in 'fixing' her stutter like one would a leaky faucet, had reassured Chacha, "The stutter is most likely just anxiety from not having spoken for so long. You enunciate really well, stutter aside, so just remember to be patient with yourself. Frustration won't get you anywhere."

Solid advice that she dare not listen to. Chacha could feel her patience lessening with every botched word. "The r-red…" She was finishing up her makeup, powdering her face aggressively. The focus on her mouth felt too visceral, too ugly and fleshy; the pull of skin, the tautness of her jaw. She patted her cheeks like she could use it to blot away all the muscles and tendons that made her fallible.
