The Last Unicorn is such a concoction. Beautiful/ugly animation. Timelessly deep/80s-make-anything-up-and-move-on writing. Great voice performances/Robert Klein & Jeff Bridges sticking out like sore thumbs. Select band known for one catchy hit/result two great lugubrious pieces back-to-back.

Less on Bodmin than hoped for but not being well versed on the B&WR still a useful title. There's a rear shot I've not seen prior & the well known photo is it still ex-works as the buffers are not yet lowered. This makes the lining interesting and also states the paint is black rather than blue.

Bit ruff but updated my old Sodor & Mainland Railway map edit so the Norramby branch is omitted. Even with this correction the network is still quite long for the little Gabs so thought I'd overrule Awdry's lore of three box tanks by making the third Neilson a design able to run trains end-to-end.

CR No.123. No.3553 built in 1886. Obviously a well known engine but a few won't have seen the outside cylinder draft for it with even bigger drivers....would make for an interesting model. I'll bookend with Dublin & Drogheda Railway No.8 No.855 built in 1862 which the model is based on (not a scan).

A sucker for Neilson singles so picked up 5 old prints at the Llanfair & Welshpool Railway show. Unfortunately 2 big 4 my scanner so had to piece 2 halves together but thought some might like to see. G&SWR No.159. No.1316 built in 1867. ? No.1458 built in 1869. Ireland? No.1783 built in 1873. (1/2)

Thanks anyway. It's 1 of the titles I'd hoped to peruse at the Welshpool & Llanfair show but weren't as many book stands this year as I'd hoped & not able to attend the Swansea show this weekend disappointingly. Still for a punt £20 something is a lot better than £40 something. Enjoy your TR trip 😎

Found a cheap second hander on eBay 👍 I'll wait till it arrives but the older Whetmath book might be worth a purchase too.

Anyone own The Bodmin & Wadebridge Railway 1834 - 1983 book by chance? On the pricey side and wishing to know if it has anything worth while on Bodmin built by Fletcher & Jennings.

Rarely pass the opportunity up to wonder round The Town Of Books after a dentist appointment and came across a cracking pic of an A5 posed with her crew. It's easy to argue the Stirling Single is the more ascetically pleasing but models included a crime only two? colour images of them seem to exist.

A tenuous James reference but reading up on the S&WR they'd adopted Chinese/grass green with yellow lining as standard by the 80s, yet little Wye stood apart by receiving wine/plum with yellow lining. On the Wantage Tramway or otherwise if anyone knows of additional pics for her would be grateful.

Didn't really have space in my table for listing all rolling stock mods but for the sake of meeting escalating passenger demands after the BBC broadcast it was quickly built like the Penrhyn opens, gained doors sometime prior to Aug 64 and finally roofed in 67.

*wayside Between Derby and Crewe you'll find a few familiar looking designs over there, while the private builders were more than happy to widen the gauge on some of their previous designs.

Though the Midland, then the LMS's foothold in Ireland two Jitnty tanks found their way over there for a time. A while back did hear notion of a preserved one being sought out for re-gauging, but that appears to have fallen by the waist side.

Overhauling my Lowca research. Does anyone happen to know of other Jersey photos for the Fletcher Jennings trio or a better copy of the above image? Bar Merton it seems there's also some confusion over their pre-North Devon Clay names, David and Goliath being from separate lists 🤷

Was actually impressed by Anya Taylor Joy as Peach so there's nothing wrong with having well known personalities in the mix, but as with any production there should always be casting trials and Chris Pratt & Fred Armisen never should have got down to the last few choices. Need more Andrea Romanos!

For text the 'Locomotives of the LNER' series is always handy to own and The Wisbech & Upwell soft backs are the obvious port of call but the GER doesn't actually have as much loco & rolling stock material as you'd think. Can try and put a title list together if you like but Ipswich is a blind spot.

Lol and yeah even Terminator doesn't ooze as much 80's 😂 Can at least claim to be old as the movie but never actually saw any G1 till buying Season 1 out of morbid curiosity around the age of 20. Definitely has its silly charm but once you've seen the movie it's akin to restarting The Inbetweeners.

Alas there is no hub as the above were gathered from books, mags, eBay & archives. www.rail-online.co.uk/p668668633 Did have research threads for some RWS prototypes, but lost the pics with Imgur blocked by the UK & haven't got round to restarting Toby's offline yet. HMRS have a General Arrangement.

Vue weirdly the 40th as May 2 years ago! Cineworld has the same month so is tied to the start of the show instead of the movie. Neither have a release 4 this year, or at least not yet, so best check in closer to Sept. Personally a sucker for Unicron's 80's jank theme. www.youtube.com/watch?v=Okja...

Bit ruff but have a Derby 4F given Awdry's model bling treatment.
071
Sleeper Agent @sleeperagent1.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
Yeah that's the trap. Awd recessing the tank doesn't help in that regard but there's no getting around his models 'really' presenting him as a small engine despite his RWS feats. Personally lean on him being bigger, but that needs to go hand in hand with making him taller or else he looks stretched.

Sleeper Agent @sleeperagent1.bsky.social · 13/05/2026
Yeah he's a tricky bugger! Basically know what I'm after for 'Percyness' but always keeping an eye out for real examples that fit the mould......would be sooooo much easy if Awdry had just made him a small 0-6-0ST or even an 0-4-2ST to still fit his distinct wheelbase mandate.

Some nice comparisons here, the first 2 being round top & Belpaire firebox 27s, second of which involving a not so common double-header for the L&Y. The next shows 2 more Aspinalls, but with 12604 in superheated condition. Lastly an Aspinall facing down a Cauliflower, the LNWR's final 0-6-0 design.

The 28s that had 20"/20.5"x26" cylinders against the 27s that had 17.5"/18"x26" cyls were rated to pull 10% heavier trains, but while the round top 85s were easy to spot in their original 28 form thanks to their thick smokeboxes the tell between the saturated & superheated Belpaires is the chimney.

Sleeper Agent @sleeperagent1.bsky.social · 10/05/2026
Ah meant Imgur not Discord 😅 Besides long trains any 27 or 28 pics that are alternative/unusual would be also welcome. *Just a little side note as it trips some people up '27' & '28' were classifications assigned in 1920 for the various batches/rebuilds of saturated & superheated 5' 1" engines.

Bugger meant Imgur. The account is still there & hopefully it'll open up again if they & the government work out the ID regulation issue, but for now previously posted images can't be seen within the UK. Basically a lot of my research built up on forums is now blank bar text so restarting on Pages.

With being frozen out of my Discord account have begun a new research thread for James. If anyone has pics of the 657 Class built in 1912 or of wide cab cutting rebuilds (1303's reboilering may have been unique) I'd appreciate it. Any 28s pulling long trains or unusual 27/28 snaps would be aces too.

Shouldn't really be drawing a blank on this but can anyone please point to where a detailed plan of a Fowler tender (early batch) can be found? Something like this with the wheel spoke detail etc. Not strictly needed but a high sided Deeley or flat sided SE&CR/Southern type would be dandy too.

The CR 61 & FR 21 classes did have replacement boilers but were basically just variants. Stand alone NW Ed would need at least one replacement in time so that provides the perfect excuse to exceed the modest 150psi starting point while his 'shy steaming' could also be remedied by greater generation.

What it would take to bring Edward up a 2P rating came in convo recently. Pettigrew's 130 Class pair & their follow up were a modest chunk against the Sharp Stewart design but with the same driver dia & similar cylinder specs actually offer decent insight on how much for Crovan's Gate to carry out.

Ah nice and some cracking shots there 😎 Boxhill was only partly visible where its was parked up when visiting York some years ago but quite neat to picture the little tank in charge of a rake of stagecoaches 😁
