PP was using Trump-GOP-style ideas and rhetoric and couldn't pivot. "Three Strikes" "Canada is broken" and immigration and anti-globalist policies were all pulled from GOP ideology. Most Canadians were smart enough to see where those talking points came from.

Yeah, that's the long game part. The US won't be this way forever. It may get worse, but more likely get better. The more angst and termoil inside the US the better. They need to be distracted by their own drama and find a way to figure their own shit out.

...either way. What i see is Carney taking the long game on this, knowing the US has to at least regress to the mean after Trump regarding it's place in the world. That includes wanting a friendlier Canada. But as the article says, it is a gamble. In fact all the options are a gamble.

The article is good and deep, but the writer seems to miss the fact we no longer deal with the US like it is a nation, but more like a Mafia syndicate. Trump's ego and personal wealth are more important than anything. But he's also politically and physically fragile and we know he won't last...

I am not necessarily in favour with everything Carney does but we all have to acknowledge we are in a new world, not what we grew up with. We also need to admit that whatever option Carney is taking might not be the one we think he is, based on actions.
