I spent so many years wondering what I did to cause the abuse. Then I heard John Bradshaw on PBS. The first time I understood that I hadn't caused it, I was the victim. Adults did it to me, a child.
"If the cycle isn't broken, it repeats", was the most transformative thing I had ever heard.
